Rooney Mara, Emily Blunt & Rebecca Hall Up For Female Lead In TRANSCENDENCE

We found out some plot details on TDKR cinematographer Wally Pfister's directorial debut yesterday, now Deadline report that 3 smoking-hot-right-now (literally and figuratively) actresses are looking to star next to Johnny Depp in the sc-fi flick..

It seems we are close to finding out who will be playing Johnny Depp's missus in the kinda crazy sounding sci-fi movie from Wally Pfister, Transcendence. Deadline reckon it's come down to three actresses that should be well known to CBMers: Roony Mara (The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo), Emily Blunt (Looper) and Rebecca Hall (Iron Man 3). Apparently one of them will play Evelyn, wife of Johnny Depp's Alex (who is murdered and has his mind uploaded into a supercomputer - you can read the full synopsis here), and we will know which one by Friday. Pfister's longtime collaborator Christopher Nolan will exec-produce the film alongside his wife Emma Thomas. Warner Brothers will distribute, and principal photography is set to begin early next year.

Personally, I'd go with Rooney Mara. But more than likely, they'll pick Emily Blunt...

I love Wall Pfister and Chris Nolan and everything...

But I don't know, I got the sneaking feeling that this movie is going to be extremely pretentious.

And I don't think they've ever been pretentious up until this point. It's just really... I think Pfister is giving me that vibe. Especially with a title like this.

Emily Blunt, please.

Rooney Mara, turn down the lead in zero dark thirty, so you never know she'd even do it. If they can get her though she's the one.

Emily Blunt hopefully because the is almost as beautiful as I'm sure this movie will be shot.

Not to spam with a lot of comments, but I'm not sure how this movie will be. Not too excited for it at this point even though I love Pfister... as a cinematographer.

Choices, choices, choices...

Rebecca Hall (30)

1

2

Roony Mara (27)

1

2

Emily Blunt (29)

1

2

Depp (49), I can see him married to Rebecca Hall. Plus, she already worked with Willy Pfister on Prestige as Sarah Borden. I like Rooney Mara, but she looks like a kid next to Depp. And, Blunt would be fine, but I like the other two contenders better.

If I was a betting man, I'd put my money on Hall.

Daymn... Very ironic how Emily Blunt gives me a sharpie...
John Krasinski is a lucky man...

Still, I do get a weird vibe that this will be a pretentious take on 'Tron' n I'm a fan of Nolan/Pfister, but whatever, if it looks good am down

Wait. What? "Literally and figuratively smoking hot right now"?

Literally?

They are literally hot and smoking? Right now? Actually so high a temperature that they're starting to smoulder? [frick]ing hell! Someone call the fire brigade! Help those poor burning women!

[frick], I just noticed that I've officially reached a stage where the mention of Johnny Depp in the lead is making my interest in a movie go down. Shit, don't I like him?! :(

Rebecca Hall or Emily Blunt.

Emily Blunt is a incredible actress,
definitely the best ability out of all of them.

Although I'd love to see Rooney Mara work alongside Johnny.
She has a strange weirdness about her which would fit in well with this sort of Sci-Fi genre of film.

@darkbeefstakes: I think you mean "decent" - "descent" means "going down". I'm no spelling/grammar nazi (despite the fact that you're the second person in this thread I've pulled on something), but thought you might want to know so you don't keep making the same mistake.

1. the act, process, or fact of moving from a higher to a lower position. Synonyms: falling, sinking; fall, drop.
2. a downward inclination or slope. Synonyms: decline, grade, declivity; slant.
3. a passage or stairway leading down.
4. derivation from an ancestor; lineage; extraction. Synonyms: ancestry, parentage, origin.
5. any passing from higher to lower in degree or state; decline. Synonyms: decrease, drop, plunge, decline, lessening, contraction, downturn.

Plus a "stake" is a sharpened piece of wood, such as those used on vampires. Maybe you meant "steak" or maybe you didn't and your name is meant to mean a darkened, meat flavoured, sharpened piece of wood. Who am I to say what you meant, right?

@CherryBomb I love Emily Blunt, so I'm not exactly unbiased. :P

I haven't seen The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo. I heard what Rooney Mara did to prepare herself for the role though, and I was like Wow... She takes acting very, very seriously.

Blunt over Mara?

Hmm...tough choice but no.

CherryBomb - 12/13/2012, 7:31 AM

@mgeoff88 Yeah, Mara is pretty hardcore! I admire her for that, I don't think she's as talented as Blunt, but I love both of them. Mara is a real chameleon! :D

Emily Blunt because she's a great actress and cute to boot.

Rebecca Hall! There's not even a close second, imo. She's killing it with the girl next door/borderline milf look. Definitely aged to perfection. And thats not me saying shes old. Its me saying if she ain't someones baby momma, yet, it's happening real soon. I can see her future: penetration is definitely inevitable!

Emily looks a little dirty to me. Don't get Rubbers wrong - I love dirty girls - but why does she always look ...wasted? That dopey eye look. Ironic her last name is blunt.

I'm kinda sick of Emily Blunt at the moment and I will still have to sit through her again when I rent & watch Looper...

Either of the other 2 will be fine...
