Screenwriter Max Landis On Board for CHRONICLE 2

Screenwriter Max Landis On Board for CHRONICLE 2

Deadline is reporting that screenwriter Max Landis is all set to write the the sequel to Chronicle. The found footage film has done very well at the global box office, grossing over $105 million.

Max Landis who co-wrote Chronicle with director Josh Trank is reportedly set to reprise his screenwriting duties for the sequel. The found footage film is about three teenagers that come upon a mysterious object that allows them to gain superpowers. The film was absolutely terrific from the dialogue to the special effects. Everything just worked really well.

Only problems moving forward is that the film felt finished, a sequel seems unnecessary, and director Josh Trank looks to be moving on to a Spider-Man spin-off film about Venom. Not sure how successful the film will be without it's original director, but I guess we'll find out.

LOL jk, saw it. Looking forwward to the sequel, though I'm hoping they scrap the foundfootage tactic for the followup since it would make very little sense.

I just saw this movie(#1) and it was pretty good but VERY predictable. It's a entertaining little movie, but it doesn't deserve a sequel.

Just walk away Fox and count your blessings and profits, cuz' I wouldn't push my luck if I were you.

His viral video about the death of Superman is really quite entertaining. It's clear he's a true fan of comics. He seems like he'd be a cool guy to hang out, too.

Fox needs to focus on making 'Rise of the Planet of the Apes' epic.

Devote your creative resources to that Fox! Don't be stupid!

Just need different story. Different characters. Maybe have the one that survived be like a mentor to the new character now burdened with the abilities. I actually liked the found footage take on the first one and i do think it would be more challenging for a sequel but if they can make it work Id love to see it done.

This will happen regardless, so with that in mine...

A sequel to this movie may unintentionally resemble the movie 'Push', or the series 'Heroes', that were both about young adults with special abilities living incognito, battling a government/company. Great entertainment, but I'd rather see something different in Chronicle.

@Lego: I admit I did not really know much about Landis until I watched the Death of Superman video that AlibiBreakfast mentions above, and I thought that it was awful. It was supposed to be funny and parts of it had potential but it was Landis himself and his douchey overacting cheese that made it painful to watch. It reminded me of something that teenagers would film in their parents' basement and put on Youtube (his portions anyway, the rest was intentionally cheap for comedic purposes, I get that).

Anyway, I'm sure I will see Chronicle eventually but it is hard to believe that something that is apparently so good came from the same guy.

SHOULD NOT DO VENOM..SHOULD TO FF. CHRONICLE 2..IT CAN GO ANYWHERE FROM WHERE THEY LEFT OFF, IT PROBABLY FELT COMPLETE TO THEM BUT YOU GOT THE AUDIENCE HUNGRY FOR WHAT HAPPENS NEXT? DOES HIS FRIENDS REGENERATE AND COME BACK TO LIFE? DO THE POWERS GROW TO GODLIKE POWER? DID SOMEONE ELSE GO INTO THE TUNNEL?

I'm all for a sequel to this, but I only think it should happen as long as he comes up with something that would be just as good as the first one or better.

I predict the survivor's girlfriend returns for the sequel. Probably the only surviving character from the first movie besides the guy with any real legs for a sequel.

I'm not sure; I love Chronicle so much, and while there are some things that haven't been explained yet, I don't know if it can work for a sequel. Like, especially with (spoiler...if anyone hasn't seen it yet) Matt being the only survivor - what will happen if he's the only super-powered guy, trying to learn more about the 'Thing'? There will be more people exposed to it, earning powers, becoming the bad guys, etc.; or he will be against the government, or what? We'll see, but for now, I can't be so sure with this.

Only problems moving forward is that the film felt finished

IT DID NOT FEEL FINISHED TO ME
In fact ,we did not see the death of all the characters,we just saw one in tibet at the end,and he was not just talking to the dead, the evil one is in an army science lab ,along with the object that started all of this and hey...we have an epic on our hands....

and yes ..no more found footage
Hve any of you read, SUPREME POWER ? max comics, gary frank and straczynski very similar to chronicle, though not obviously.

Best film this year so far IMO. I believe that was because it was something new and surprised alot o people, similar to the first Matrix. Fox should really be cncentrating on Apes, FF and Xmen. Chronicle was good as standalone. This situation is similar to District 9, brilliant film and even though there could be a sequel it would be refreshing for the studio to move onto something else.
