STAR TREK: A Michelle Yeoh-Led Spinoff Series Is Officially In Development At CBS All Access
CBS All Access' slate of Star Trek projects has expanded once again, as the streaming service officially puts the Michelle Yeoh's Star Trek: Discovery spinoff into development. More details past the jump.
Following Paramount Pictures shelving of Star Trek 4 last week, CBS All Access has officially put a new Star Trek series into development, with Michelle Yeoh in the lead role.
We first heard the Crazy Rich Asian star was in talks to lead a Star Trek: Discovery spinoff late last year, and as that previous report revealed, the series will see Yeoh reprise her role as the mirror universe's Philippa Georgiou and will follow her exploits as a member of Starfleet's Section 31 division.
While the new series is still in the early stages of development, Deadline has heard that "the new Trekverse addition from co-EPs Bo Yeon Kim and Erika Lippoldt is shaping up to be an ensemble."
Along with these details on the series, producer Alex Kurtzman also released a brief statement on the big news, heaping praise on star Michelle Yeoh and showrunners Bo Yeon Kim and Erika Lippoldt.
"Michelle has shattered ceilings, broken boundaries, and astonished us with her grace and gravitas for decades. As a human, I adore her. As an actor, I revere her. Erika and Boey are remarkable, exciting writers who bring a fresh perspective to the world of Star Trek, and we’re all thrilled to explore the next wild chapter in the life of Captain Philippa Georgiou.”
Meanwhile, Yeoh herself also commented on the announcement, saying "I’m so excited to continue telling these rich ‘Star Trek’ stories. Being a part of this Universe and this character specifically has been such a joy for me to play. I can’t wait to see where it all goes – certainly I believe it will go ‘where no WOMAN has ever gone before!"
The Michelle Yeoh-led Section 31 series is just the latest series to join All Access' slate of Star Trek projects, as the platform is currently developing a Jean-Luc Piccard show and the animated comedy Star Trek: Lower Decks among others potential shows.
