According to blackfilm.com:

“They gave me a three-page script to read from that had three characters named Bones, Kirk and somebody called Spock, and they asked me if I would read for the role of Spock."

“I said to myself, ‘I’ll take any one of these roles,’ but I found the Spock character to be very interesting.”

What a bullshit story that's not getting the facts straight. The reason she had to read for Spock for her audition was because the Uhura wasn't developed yet and she had to read for something. She wasn't seriously considered for the part, because Leonard Nimoy was already cast.

What Kamdan just said. Everyone knows they already had Spock from the original pilot and that Spock was the one character that Roddenberry was adamant about keeping and Nimoy had the role sewn up.

What a steaming pile!

@Kamdan, niknik

Of Course Nimoy got the part(which makes it tough for ppl to imagine her in the role), but its just a 'what if' article. There have been times where an actor got fired from a part, b/c the producers wanted another actor (Bob Saget in Full House). Really and truly, it's plausible that she could have had the part- i mean, why was she given the chance to read for that character?

Because there IS NO what if to this story! The role of Uhura had not yet been written. She was just reading ANYTHING for the sole reason of reading. Period! If they had handed her the lines for Captain Kirk instead, would you then be assuming she was in the running for that part as well?

@niknik

You didnt fully understand what I was saying... there was a possibility that she could have been the character. What if she impressed the producers so much that she won the role from Nimoy?? Like I said, there was a possibility.
If your are right, then I guess you were there when the negations went down. Oh, and post some quotes (like I did) to prove yourself
