I think I can speak for everyone when I say, let's get the show on the road. Originally, the first day of principal photography was expected to start last month, but development on Star Wars VII has been rocky. The release date got pushed back from the summer to winter. Then screenwriter Michael Arndt was relieved of his duties, and replaced by J.J. and Lawrence Kasdan. Now it looks like things are finally moving in the right direction as Drew McWeeny has a scoop on shooting dates,
Multiple sources now have confirmed for us that "Star Wars Episode VII" is set to start shooting mid-May and will run through September of this year, and most principal casting on the film is complete, with many announcements still to come. While Abrams had mentioned May during the TCA press tour and there had been speculation about the summer date, the full production schedule was finally confirmed for us.

Release Date: December 18, 2015

YES! There has to be casting news soon...I mean, it's killing us.

I hope this movie can stay with some of the EU material (the characters mostly), but stills finds a way to be original. I believe there is a way to please people who love the EU and people who either don't like it or people who don't know about and still make a good movie.

@Scarilian Seriously, who hopes a film is bad? That's like intentionally burning your breakfast, so you can have a bad meal, it makes no sense.

Still not pleased that EU characters like Mara Jade and Jaina Solo are going to be re-done just with different names attached to them.

It would've been cool to have this be a summer movie but I guess December will do and @JoJo1982 I feel the same exact way. But I'm still interested though cause it's Star Wars....

@ndwwrestler2

Sometimes its better to hope the film is bad in order to prevent further disasters down the line. The likelihood of 6 bad films in the new series is a lot more likely than 6 good films.
ndwwrestler2
ndwwrestler2 - 2/10/2014, 3:48 PM
@Scarilian IF they did make six more films, I would still hope they are good. One good film doesn't necessarily mean that they are going to make six more films. Two more? Yes. Six more? I wouldn't bet money on that.

Besides, for me personally, I want to see a good Star Wars film no matter what it means down the road.

@RetroFit

I also remember being excited in the mid 90's when Lucas announced the prequels and feeling let down with Episode one,but I really enjoyed Episode 3 and felt it was a better Star Wars film then Return of The Jedi. As someone who watched all the original films during their first theatrical runs,it sometimes was easy to forget that when I watched the first film in 77,I was looking at them with a child's sense of wonder and adventure.In 80,I was 12 and Luke's first real steps in the journey to manhood matched my own.In 83,I had just finished the first year of high school and Luke's completion of his quest to become a Jedi seemed to offer some hope that I too could make it through that troubled painfully awkward time in my life by finding out who I really was.

By the time the first prequel had arrived in 1999, I was a man of 31,caught up in adult life as a husband and father
beginning to settle down with a house and a career. I no longer could look at Star Wars with wonder, only a cynical eye towards how great things used to be.Point is,these new films can never be as good as the originals but they can still be good if they are good movies on their own account.

I really hope to god I never end up like grif.It seems nothing geek related appears to bring him joy,yet he continues to bless us with his takes on everything.One just wants to say,"What is the point if you seem to hate everything,most of which you haven't even seen yet?"

can't be any worse than the prequels,i say bring it on.

After the initial mind blowing ground breaking excitement of watching Star Wars in June 1977, everything else (with the possible exception of Empire)in this franchise has been a mind numbing disappointment. As SF and in terms of film making it is pretty mediocre stuff. Not sure if there's anything Abrams can do to make it worse. But you know he'll try his best.
