With STAR WARS: The Clone Wars wrapping up another successful season, LucasFilm is apparently planning on branching its franchise off into a different direction.

Variety has just reported that Lucasfilm Animation is developing an animated STAR WARS comedy series for TV. Daytime Emmy and Gemini Award-winner Jennifer Hill (The Backyardians) will produce while Todd Grimes (Back at the Barnyard) will helm the director's chair. The Daily Show writer Brendan Hay will join forces with Robot Chicken creators and exec producers Seth Green and Matthew Seinreich to bring the series to fruition. Green and Seinreich are reported to currently have "creative involvement" with the show.

No word yet when the series will enter into production.

MPP - I'm so glad this is happening. There's so much comedic potential within Star Wars that hasn't been tapped into yet.

Wait. . . what?
