J.J. Abrams On STAR WARS: EPISODE VII Release Date And the Return of 'C-3PO(?)' And 'R2-D2'

Explaining how the new release is more convenient than the initial summer opening, Star Wars: Episode VII director J.J. Abrams talks with MTV about the possibility of both R2-D2 & C-3PO returning!

“I will say that it's infinitely a better situation now than when [Disney] were saying they wanted it in summer,” J.J. Abrams says of the December 18, 2015, release date for Star Wars: Episode VII. “Before I even came onto the project, [Disney] was talking about 2015, and they made this announcement very early on. Which I understand why they would want that, but it didn't necessarily have anything to do with the reality of where was creatively. So I think that it's a hugely important thing that that come first. And a release date, great, but you have to release something great. So, to me the new release date is a huge improvement.”

About 'negotiating' the return of R2-D2, Abrams asks “How do you do Star Wars without R2-D2?" But when MTV asked if there's a 'package deal' inclusion of both R2-D2 and C-3PO, the director said “they have different agents.” In awe of MTV's Josh Horowitz's 'Jar Jar Binks' imitation and suggestive availability to voice the character in Episode VII, J.J. Abrams, laughing, responded with “There really is no response to this. Oh my God, you always wonder how does someone find what they were born to do. You've figured it out! That's amazing. All I can thank you for is not doing it until the end of the interview,” the director added, laughing. What do you think?

I love Abrams reaction to the Jar Jar voice. His face just screams "Really? Did he really just do that?"

I heard Anthony Daniels is an ass, but you really can't do a SW movie without C3PO and R2-D2.

@NovaCorpsFan:

Just as Mercwitham0uth said. I too want to see an epic annihilation of Jar-jar binks. And I want it to be like like Charlize Theron's ending in Prometheus-- fast and quick so there is less of him.

How to make Star Wars good.
Don't make the same mistakes the prequels did and you're golden.

C-3P0 needs to be here.

And hopefully there is a scene where Jar Jar gets killed.

Lucas even managed to screw up R2D2 in the prequels and C3P0.
They sucked in ROTJ also.

The droids will be in the movie. It's not star wars if 3PO and R2 aren't there.

Don't care about the droid talk or the Jar Jar talk. But I want to know is WILL LUKE, SOLO, and LEIA be in the god damn movie!? That's the only thing I gives a [frick] about right now. They better be or JJ will pay with his career!

I wish they kept the deleted scene in Episode III when Palpatine kills Jar Jar… or was that fake?

This is how you do it Abrams:

The usual title screen, rolling text with backstory, camera pan to the planet Coruscant, the trial of Jar Jar Binks is taking place in the New Senate chambers. The creature is found guilty for high treason to the franchise and executed immediately. As we get a close up take on it's dead face, a big message TO THE FANS appears on screen. There ya go, continue the story.

If Jar Jar is in this movie, I'll throw my popcorn at the screen, run out of the movie theater and demand my money back. Except if he gets killed, then I'll start clapping.
