Matthew Vaughn Set For STAR WARS: EPISODE VII?

Matthew Vaughn Set For STAR WARS: EPISODE VII?

Matthew Vaughn just might be set for Star Wars: Episode 7 based on responses from actor Jason Flemyng who happens to be a frequent collaborator of Vaughn's. "Me and [Matthew Vaughn] have done nine films together so I'm sure I'll get the call for Star Wars."

Flemyng (Layer Cake, X-Men: First Class) and Vaughn (Kick-Ass, X-Men: First Class ) are very close friends, so much so that Vaughn has put Flemyng in EVERY film that he's ever directed. So when Flemyng was fielding questions at the UK premiere for Seven Psychopaths the discussion naturally turned to Star Wars and if he's talked with Vaughn about the project.

"Me and [Matthew Vaughn] have done nine films together so I'm sure I'll get the call for Star Wars. But I'm sure it's going to be 'Flemyng, no...I know on paper it doesn't look like much but I promise you it's essential to the part.' So we'll see what happens with that."(sic)

After realizing that he just potentially spilled the beans, Flemyng had an 'interesting' look on his face to say the least. Still, until we receive official confirmation, take this as a rumor for now....but it would certainly explain Vaughn's relatively last-minute decision to drop out of X-Men: Days of Future Past. [Flemyng also confirmed his return as Azazel by the way.]

They could do worse. At least it's not Ratner or Snyder.

he might be the right choice for the job.it would be pretty much impossible to make a movie worse than the prequels.

I think Stardust is the closest to the overall scope of Star Wars. And that was great. Vaughn rules.

Awesome, he is a great director. I wanted him for Justice League, but Star Wars is good to.

Obvious rumor is obvious.
Still, Vaughn makes great films. If you're still upset that he made a movie about characters owned by FOX and not the Mighty Marvel Studios, then you don't even deserve to talk about Movies with the rest of the big boys.

I don't see the big thing with Vaughn. I mean, Kick-Ass was great, but it is indie at best. Fist Ass was a good movie, but a God-Awful X-Men film. But to lay upon him a franchise with such big aspirations and a huge fanbase, it's just, well... Detrimental to the saga... Let him do more before you overbear him with projects.

Disney just needs to cut the bullshit and just pay Joss Whedon or Jon Favreau like a billion dollars to write and direct.

@manofsteel1013...

completely agree. it would be tremendous to see LESS computer fx & more practical. and after those epic hit-girl fight sequences, just imagining how he'd pull of the light-saber fights...j.e.s.u.s.h.c.h.r.i.s.t.

i don't know a ton about vaughn's M.O., but in his hands id be entirely at ease.

^If it was a good movie, then why complain about him as a director?

"A bad X-men movie" doesn't mean he would make a bad Star Wars.

I would like to see Matthew Vaughn helm Star Wars Episode 7. But I'm still hoping for Peter Jackson.

For those who want Matthew Vaughn for Star Wars Episode 7... why? I don't know much about the guy, so I'm curious as to why some of you like him. His attitude towards X-Men: First Class hasn't been very fan friendly. Although, he could be a huge Star Wars fanboy (which is what we need). If he gets the gig, they need to release a video interview of him saying the normal spiel about his excitement. You can tell who is truly passionate about a project and who is not.

When I saw this headline under Colin Trevorrow's new gig... I was bummed. I wanted that Safety Not Guaranteed guy. Vaughn is not who I'd ever imagine inheriting Star Wars. Of all the things we've heard about this project, this makes me completely uninterested. Don't make this Episode 7 an advertisement for toy lightsabers!

@HalloweenJack I think I kinda know what you're talking about. It was reported on this site around the time X-Men: FC was released. He said something like he doesn't care much about the source material.

I don't really have a problem with Vaughn though.

@DarthTesla By the time they start filming Star Wars, Whedon will be filming The Avengers 2.
