PEAKY BLINDERS Creator Steven Knight Takes Over From Damon Lindelof On Untitled STAR WARS Movie

Screenwriters Damon Lindelof and Justin Britt-Gibson decided to part ways with the untitled Star Wars movie they had been working on for director Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy earlier this week, and Lucasfilm has wasted very little time in finding a more than suitable replacement.

According to Variety, Peaky Blinders creator Steven Knight has been tapped to take over as writer on the top-secret project.

We still know next to nothing about this film, but it is expected to be our first big-screen trip to the Galaxy Far, Far Away since 2019's Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker. More details, including a title and possible plot synopsis, should be revealed next month at Star Wars Celebration in London.

Knight was nominated for an Academy Award for Dirty Pretty Things almost 20 years ago, and has gone on to work on the likes of Eastern Promises, Spencer and The Hundred-Foot Journey.

The Star Wars movie universe has been in a state of disarray ever since The Rise of Skywalker underwhelmed at the box office, with Disney scaling back on the amount of big-screen projects they put into development.

Potential films from Kevin Feige and Patty Jenkins have been shelved indefinitely, and while Taika Waititi and Shawn Levy are still working their own Star Wars movies, the latter is expected to be kept busy with Deadpool 3 for the foreseeable.

Anyway, we'd very much like to see Alfie Solomons - not Tom Hardy, Alfie Solomons - in Knight's Star Wars movie.

We're almost 4 years from the disaster of Rise of Skywalker and it seems like nothing has changed

@WakandaTech - Disney is in self-destruct mode across the board.
Even the MCU, which once seemed unstoppable, now looks vulnerable.

They've flooded and diluted the market with so much "content" that there's nothing special when these big event movies come out anymore.

As a kid of the 70's, the original Star Wars was a phenomenon. There was simply nothing like it.
Now it's all more of the same, but poorly told, and watered down.

@Feralwookiee - Marvel Studios is there bread and butter. That's why they are restructuring all projects now that they have multiple rotten films in the same Saga.

Peaky Blinders is fantastic so that’s not a bad find….but I’m still not getting super excited for the movie side until they reveal what is on the table and commit. Directors and projects have been a rotating door.

Frankly, I’m just enjoying Star Wars on TV more than anything they have done on the big screen. Especially the animated and Filoni/Faveroue projects.

@Doomsday8888 - They got the guy who writes that show about old timey British gangsters and DTV movies about new timey British gangsters starring Jason Statham, not the geek-culture guy who did Buffy, Pacific Rim and Jupiter's Rising.

You don't think they called the wrong guy by mistake do you?

Ah well, they're committed now and he's probably a better writer than Steven S. DeKnight anyway, so no biggie.

@ObserverIO - this guy pitched man of steel 2 with cavill a few months ago, so he's not that removed from geek culture lol

@tmp3 - I did not know that. Then it's probably about time somebody plucked him from the back alleys of late-19th century Birmingham and dropped him into the middle of a laser battle aboard a fully-functional death station in a far flung galaxy.

@ObserverIO - uh Steven DeKnight wrote part of Daredevil season 1. Interesting take...

@McMurdo - Yes, but Jupiter's Legacy and Pacific Rim Uprising? Not so good.

And Peaky Blinders is actually very good. I think DeKnight's okay, but not reliably good.
