Something seems a bit fishy about the announcement of a 2015 film release for a Star Wars sequel. Traditionally, (at least with the prequels) the Star Wars films required a lengthy amount of time in post production to nail down all the special effects. And with Disney and LucasFilm able to keep even an inkling of this mega-deal from slipping out, it almost makes you wonder if they're still keeping a few things underwraps. Like maybe, there's already a script/director/actor(s) attached to the project. And with such a historic movie franchise, its hard to believe that Disney will turn to any unproven talent as they look to re-spark one of the greatest movie franchises of all time. For now though, we're free to speculate. Below, I've listed a few options for the director's chair:
-Christopher Nolan: A long shot surely, but
he's a fan of the franchise.
-Guillermo del Toro: I'm sure he'd love to design the creatures in the Star Wars universe.
-Edgar Wright: He'll likely be busy with Ant-Man but he's one director that could capture the humor from the original films.
-JJ Abrams: Abrams is a huge Star Wars fan but he's locked into the Star Trek films.
-Rian Johnson: A confessed fan of Cowboy Beebop, you definitely see a bit of that sci-fi aesthetic in Looper.
-Brad Bird: He's in the inner circle at Disney and proved himself with Ghost Protocol.
-Ridley Scott: Say what you will about Prometheus, no one does sci-fi like Scott.
-Kevin Smith: A darkhorse option surely but he would definitely bring fresh vision to a franchise that's become a bit stale.
-Peter Jackson - Another Warner Bros. collaborator, he's proven himself with one storied franchise already.
-Josh Trank: The new kid on the block, he may need to prove himself a bit more before being handed the keys to something like Star Wars.
-John Favreau: He launched the Marvel Universe with Iron Man, can he do something similar for Star Wars?
-Drew Goddard - With Joss Whedon busy guiding the Marvel Cinematic Universe and directing The Avengers 2 which will also be released in 2015, Goddard would be the next logical choice if you're looking to take a Whedonesque approach.
-Duncan Jones: As someone just pointed out to me on twitter, I criminally forgot to add Jones to the mix. Moon and Source Code are two very excellent sci-fi films. Most CBMers wanted Jones for Guardians of the Galaxy.
