Scrapped BOBA FETT Movie Was Set To Focus On Him And The Bounty Hunters Seen In THE EMPIRE STRIKES BACK

We recently learned that Lucasfilm is no longer developing a Boba Fett movie as they instead focus on The Mandalorian but a new report sheds some light on what was originally planned for the spinoff...

Last week, Kathleen Kennedy confirmed that Lucasfilm has put the brakes on a Boba Fett movie as the studio instead focuses on developing The Mandalorian for Disney's planned streaming service. Now, Entertainment Weekly has revealed that the movie, which has been in the works since 2013, could be resurrected at some point but is indeed dead for the time being.

According to the site, the plan was to put the spotlight on Fee and the bounty hunters who appeared alongside him on the deck of Darth Vader's Star Destroyer during The Empire Strikes Back

Whether or not that's an indication it would have taken place around the time of that movie rather than after Return of the Jedi is hard to say but it definitely would have been fun seeing those characters get some attention, especially as they're a) all fan-favourites based on appearance alone and b) have only ever been given any love in comic books and video games up until now.

Unfortunately, Boba Fett has seemingly been cursed from the start as Lucasfilm was planning to show a teaser clip at Star Wars Celebration in 2015 before Fantastic Four director Josh Trank was fired from the project and it was put on hold.

Who is Fee? I don't remember a bounty hunter named Fee.

I wonder if any of these Bounty Hunters will cameo in the Mandalorian? The time period makes it plausible.

We could have had a gang of bounty hunters?

Holy shit, I didn't realize this movie was going to have Bossk and IG-88 in it! Damn! And Dengar, 4-LOM, and Zuckuss! Now I wish they had made it!

And you know I'm not being sarcastic, because I only had to look up one of those names.

@Spock0Clock - Zuckuss, right? Poor Zuckuss never gets much love.

"The hype for Boba fett is over."

Honestly, I don't care this movie doesn't happen anymore. I never really had much interest in Fett or any of those other bounty hunters from that scene. The only time I really cared for bounty hunters was the story arc from the Clone Wars where Obi-Wan 'died'

Bounty hunters are boring anyways. In a universe with the force, laser swords, lovable characters, epic pilots, I don’t give a [frick] about thugs who hunt criminals. That’s so mundane. Save that for other, less fantastical space franchises I say.

@BloodyBed - dude that's what makes them awesome. It's a unique but necessary space in the space "opera". Plenty a good stories there.

... In the right hands.

One of the most useless scenes in SW: Empire strikes Back showed us a bunch of badass bounty hunters only to do nothing through out the whole movie. Pointless.

@Matador - Or... it's just a testament to the creativity of the original group of people working on these films. Creating several interesting looking characters for a 3 second shot that are SO interesting looking people decided to give them stories and backgrounds for the next 40 years.

@VoiceofReason - too bad we can never replicate that today. If we tried to have a scene of cool looking characters that do nothing but stand there and let fans speculate on them, we'd just complain that they arent giving them backstories and thats wrong (oh wait, we did that with phasma and the knights of ren)
VoiceofReason
VoiceofReason - 10/29/2018, 5:55 AM
@Origame - Difference there is Phasma was put in front of us as if she was going to be important. And in interviews they spun it as "It's great for women and little girls to have heroes!" It literally could have been anyone in that costume and ADR'd a female voice over it.

At least the bounty hunters were just... there. And not even given names within the movie.
Origame
Origame - 10/29/2018, 5:59 AM
@VoiceofReason - she was as front and center as boba fett. In fact he was set up originally to be the next big bad for the sequel trilogy. Also, neither were the knights of ren.

@VoiceofReason - They were all one shot wonders or 3secs of fame hell I thought the lizard dude was going to be awesome.

@Matador - it was great for world building and showing how interesting even the most useless characters could be.
Matador

@Ryguy88 - I can understand that but why make them look cool because it was just a ocular teaseing

which left your eyeballs with blueballs.

@VoiceofReason - i was agreeing with you at first but then it sounded like you disagreed with me as you were explaining why its unacceptable in the new movies as opposed to the old.
VoiceofReason
VoiceofReason - 10/29/2018, 7:15 AM
@Origame - Haha hmmm... I just meant Boba Fett and bounty hunters were just tools to the plot and not presented as central characters.

Phasma was just a tool in the plot but WAS falsely presented as an important central character.

Which I think is what you meant too.

@BIGBMH - you reckon they're leaving themselves open to the Mandalorian being Boba anyway? Like that script they were floating with him being the man with no name who took the mantle?
