While it was naturally Hail Caesar! star Alden Ehrenreich who had the highest hill to climb in Solo: A Star Wars Story, taking over the iconic role made famous by Harrison Ford, his co-star Donald Glover had some pretty big shoes to fill himself. The Atlanta creator has already received a huge amount of praise for his portrayal of Lando Calrissian in the upcoming film, including from original actor Billy Dee Williams.

Speaking to ComicBook.com Glover was asked whether he had heard anything regarding Williams' reaction to the film. "He texted me," Glover revealed. "He said 'You did a good job.' That was all I wanted, all I needed."

Much like Ehrenreich and Ford, Glover had previously met with Williams to gain some insight into playing the beloved Star Wars character, and it must have paid off as Billy Dee Williams gave the actor his full endorsement. "It definitely made me feel like I didn't let him down," Glover said. "He was such an iconic figure in the first one, in The Empire Strikes Back, that I definitely didn't want to let him down."

ComicBook.com writer JK Schmidt also caught up with Williams after the premiere of the Ron Howard directed spin-off film and asked him what he thought of the movie as a whole, tweeting...

Whether Glover will be as much of a hit with audiences as he was with Williams remains to be seen, but early reviews seem to indicate that he steals the movie, which also bodes well for that Lando: A Star Wars Story spinoff that LucasFIlm president Kathleen Kennedy teased a few days ago.

What do you think? Have you always been a fan of Glover's casting? Do you think someone would have been better? Leave your thoughts below.

Lando should have been in the last one instead of Justin Theorux as the code breaker . Would have been a nice cameo.

Saw Glover on Kimmel recently and thought it was funny when he was talking about the first time he met Billy Dee Williams regarding the role. He said he was asking him all these questions regarding his thoughts on where Lando is from originally, type of being, etc and Williams' response was basically "I don't know about any of that stuff, just be cool man"

Has Billy Dee gone on record about all of this? He doesn't seem like the kind of guy who would be okay with Pando Calrissian as portrayed by DonG lover.....

I still would have preferred a more heroic end to Han Solo’s life in the new Star Wars trilogy.

I know Ford wanted out but they should have had him make the supreme sacrifice in E8.

Or have him die at the end of E7 and had a funeral for the Rebellious n hero. Then Lando could have showed up to pay his respects and he could have joined the cast. I would prefer that he captained the Falcon with Rey as his Co-pilot for at least one film.

Ain't no Star Wars movie that was hurt by having Lando in it. Dude makes every scene he's in cooler.

Something's rotten with rottentomatoes. I absolutely cannot login to add my voice to the "disinterested" category. I hit the "log in" button after entering my correct email and password which I know is registered with them, even tried with different web browsers and I get... nothing. The login window just stays there. I see the email I entered in and the password dots. Nothing happens. I can close the login window, but then, of course, I'm not logged in so can't do anything. Did Disney get to rottentomatoes?

I was eventually able to login by clicking their forums link, and it only seemed to work that way on the second try. Weird.

Seriously, though, why would I want to see the Disney version of Han Solo's beginnings? It's fake star wars as far as I'm concerned. I want real star wars back.

and that can only be done if they retcon The Last Jedi. And they won't. They've made that clear. So, they ruined Luke Skywalker and then give me the middle finger, what am I supposed to do? This is the least I can do is passionately boycott. They and I as well don't want to see the worst I could do.

Mind you, there was a large universe of possibilities of things they could have done in these movies that I would have been fine with. I'd have been fine if they skipped past Luke's life and mentioned him in legends. They could have even said he was a flawed master who failed with many of his students and I could accept that. Saying Luke Skywalker, the man who has solidified himself as the hero of the original trilogy, has gone through his hero's journey, failed along the way and came out on the other side a forgiving light-side force user who can see through people's dark side to their light, to say that man ignited his lightsaber to kill his nephew, his sister's son, in his sleep for things he might do, hadn't even done yet, and then after that insanity, he runs off to a distant planet at a time when the dark side and the first order were rising, determined to let his friends and the galaxy fend for itself so that he could simply die? No. Disney, my reaction to this scenario is predictable. Are you stupid, Disney?

And honestly, why the f is Kylo dark side anyway? Because he's a brat? That's kind of what I get out of it all. They never have explained him. At this point, I don't GAF, but, it's an elephant in the room to me when thinking of how they say Han died. They have never given him motive! I have to keep going dark side, because Snoke, no, because me, because.. More power? Shrug.
