SOLO: A STAR WARS STORY Star Donald Glover Says He's Been "Scanned" By Lucasfilm

Star Wars has shown a willingness in the past to digitally recreate characters on screen, and based on what Donald Glover said recently, they will continue to use this uncanny technology in the future...

Donald Glover has become one of the hottest names in the entertainment business. Between his award-winning series Atlanta, incredible music career, and roles in summer blockbusters, Glover has a lot going his way.

Apparently, you can add virtual immortality to that list too. In an interview with The New Yorker, Glover said his likeness has been saved in a Lucasfilm scan that sounds like something out of a sci-fi story. The actor explains:

“I’m scanned into ‘Star Wars’ now, my face and body...Who’s to say that at some point they won’t take that scan and say, ‘Let’s make another movie with Donald. He’s been dead for fifteen years, but we can do whatever we want with him.’ ”

While this seems like Lucasfilm is really playing the long game, these CGI scans aren't just for recreating dead actors like we saw in Rogue One with Grand Moff Tarkin. This technology can also be used to make sure actors look a certain age forever, which is still pretty weird but perhaps a bit less ethically questionable.

Since Disney is planning on making Star Wars movies forever, it doesn't really come as a surprise that they are using this kind of technology on their actors. Between Princess Leia and Tarkin in Rogue One, it looks like Lucasfilm was only testing the waters with digital recreation. It will be interesting, and a little scary, to see just how far the company goes in the future.
