SPOILERS: Does STAR WARS: THE RISE OF SKYWALKER Tie Into THE MANDALORIAN In Any Way?

Disney released this week's episode of The Mandalorian before Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker arrives in theaters, but does the TV series tie into the movie in any way? Find the answer to that here...

With The Mandalorian hitting Disney+ today instead of Friday, there's been a lot of speculation that the series would feature some sort of tie-in to Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker (or vice versa). So, is the TV show linked to the movie in any way? It's not a straightforward yes or no answer and we've yet to see the finale, of course, but there's at least one noteworthy link.

During "Chapter 7," The Child uses his Force abilities to heal a mortal wound that Greef Karga has suffered. Placing his hands on the Guild leader, Baby Yoda (as fans have dubbed him) completely healed the wound as if it had never even happened. So, what does that have to do with The Rise of Skywalker?

Well, without getting too specific, both Rey and Kylo Ren use that exact power in the movie.

Healing is clearly a new force ability that Lucasfilm wants to introduce to the Galaxy, Far, Far Away, and while this isn't a direct tie-in, you have to believe that some planning was involved so that what we see on the big screen doesn't feel like a totally alien concept. After all, that power would have come in mighty handy when Darth Vader was taking his final breath in front of Luke Skywalker in Return of the Jedi

We'll have to wait and see whether the final episode of The Mandalorian drops a more direct link to the movie, but for now, let us know your thoughts on this very small crossover in the comments section.

Healing powers and time travel is lazy writing at its finest.

@SwampThing - Force Users became way over powered after Original Trilogy.

Would prefer they go back in time to early days of force users. When they didn’t know the extent of force powers. Strip it down to basics.

@IronGenesis - The early Sith and Jedi were even more powerful than any characters in the sequels or the OT lol.

@TexasAvenger - is that from the material no longer considered cannon? And if it is cannon then go back even farther.

@IronGenesis - I think they just pick and choose what's canon now.

@TexasAvenger - ahhhh. Lol. I’m looking for a time period when Force users are relatively new. No Jedi. And if we roll with the Sith being a race like in Darl Horse Comics.

Maybe only people who use the force in positive and negative ways. Maybe no lightsabers but swords or other weapons.

@IronGenesis - Jedi Healing isn't a new concept to Star Wars at all.

They may not have shown it in any of the movies but it's been used quite a few times in video games and Extended Universe novels. (Even though the EU novels don't count anymore.) But still. This isn't something that's never been shown before.

@CorndogBurglar - I understand. But for such a powerful skill to suddenly be demonstrated by two novices in the force when you have 6 prior films of ancient Jedi masters not using this skill I think makes it a harder sell on the general audience.

Not every theatre is going to have you there to help with your knowledge of SW LORE.

@IronGenesis - Yep, I get that man. I'm not saying it's okay to just suddenly jam it into a movie out of no where. There are people that only watch the movies and would be a bit confused by this.

Especially when it comes to how strong it is or can be. I mean, we saw baby Yoda heal Space Apollo Creed's mangled arm and kill poison coursing through his veins. That's pretty strong for a baby that's just acting on instinct.

So it is easy to wonder why Obi Wan wouldn't have used it to heal Qui Gonn when he got stabbed in Episode 1. Seems like it would be a powerful enough power to heal that kind of wound from someone with even a little training.

hum..... not really.

Oh yeah the extended universe is not canon and there's no books as per Kennedy lol

@RevanOfKrypton - Didn't Maul sustain himself with the force after being cut in half? Was that under Disney or did it pre-date the deal?
FrankieDedo
FrankieDedo - 12/18/2019, 4:43 PM
@RevanOfKrypton - Legends canon is not something they adapt directly, but it's something they are constantly "rearranging" into the new canon, this was intended from day on of the reformation of SW canon, so, nothing different or strange than before.

@LongMayHeReign - Yeah, but that was the dark side that kept him alive just like Vader: when he turns to the light side, he lose the hate that was keeping him alive, so he dies (also because of the life support, but the symbolic reason is that, as per George Lucas, that resurrected Maul in The Clone Wars)

@FrankieDedo - Jedi Healing has been a thing for decades. It's been in video games and Extended universe novels for a long time. Just not in the movies.

I know the old EU novels don't count anymore, but the point is that this isn't a new concept at all.

In one novel Luke was infected with a virus and he used the Force to kill the virus in his blood, very similar to Baby Yoda killing the poison in Space Apollo Creed's blood.

It's also been used to heal straight up wounds.

@Skestra - Its actually a valid thought. Show it in The Mandalorian that way it's not quite so out of left field when it happens in the movies for the first time.
