STAR WARS EPISODE IX SPOILERS: An In-Depth Look At The Rumored (And Bizarre) Plot Leak For The Movie
The new Star Wars movies have always suffered from various concept art and story leaks and it appears as if the same is the case for J.J. Abrams' Episode IX if these crazy plot details are to be believed.
While Disney is currently basking in the success of Avengers: Infinity War and preparing to release Solo: A Star Wars Story later this month, fans will soon be salivating for every possible piece of information they can get on Episode IX. As of right now, J.J. Abrams is hard at work developing the movie and while we've had the odd casting leak, little to nothing is actually known about this finale right now.
Well, that may have finally changed as a Redditor who posted some seemingly legit intel about Star Wars: The Last Jedi a couple of years ago (including Supreme Leader Snoke's death at the hands of Ben Solo and Luke Skywalker's attitude towards the Force) has now returned after claiming to have read an early "storyboard" for Star Wars Episode IX. Needless to say, it makes for interesting reading.
The story appears to be from when Colin Trevorrow was directing but it's just as likely this may have something to do with what Abrams has planned. Regardless, there's a lot here sure to get fans talking and while there's a chance it's total bullsh*t, the fact this person was reportedly right in the past makes it at least worth considering. 5 Years Later...
Apparently, Episode IX will follow Revenge of the Sith and Return of the Jedi by jumping ahead by a fairly significant period of time (five years in this case). Kylo Ren's rule over The First Order is now viewed as being "benevolent" by the majority of the Galaxy and not only is the Resistance no longer being rooted for by regular folk but there are even those within it wondering why they're still fighting.
The Resistance Remains
It goes without saying that Rey, Finn, Poe Dameron, and Leia are all standing firm against the idea that the Galaxy should be ruled over by The First Order and they're contacted by a mole within the villainous organisation promising that they have some information which will expose Kylo Ren and those loyal to him for what they are and help the Resistance finally them to an end once and for all.
Now, before we go any further, there's obviously a major discrepancy both here and in some of the other details revealed throughout this post because Leia is mentioned on multiple occasions despite the fact that Carrie Fisher is dead and her character will not be able to appear as a result. With that in mind, it's possible this outline is from when Colin Trevorrow was still going to direct the movie.
The First Order's Secret
Here's where things start to get weird. This tip leads our heroes to a planet in the unknown regions where they have to infiltrate a First Order command station to extract a young female alien who will help them navigate this part of the Galaxy. They succeed and head to a planet made up solely of water.
It's there that they learn the secret behind The First Order's unlimited resources; this planet holds an old underwater manufacturing station (bear in mind that early concept art for The Force Awakens and The Last Jedi showed the Millennium travelling through water) which is being manned by the populations of worlds that The First Order has secretly conquered across the unknown regions.
These people are slaves and the heroes need to free them before they're exterminated so they can expose The First Order to the Galaxy and hopefully bring an end to the Empire once and for all.
War
The Outer Rim and unknown regions have always been something of a mystery to us so it would definitely be interesting seeing Episode IX shed some light on that. The plot leak notes that the story wraps up with those on the fringes of the Galaxy finally deciding to step up and help the Resistance by going to war with The First Order and any planets that choose to still support Kylo Ren.
The Mole
Talking of Kylo Ren, what exactly is Ben Solo up to here? Well, he's been spending the vast majority of his time hunting down any other Force users alongside the Knight of Ren in order to ensure that Luke Skywalker's sacrifice doesn't inspire a new generation of Jedi. He's also attempting to discover who the mole is and we later learn that it's General Hux. Has he decided to become a good guy?
Nope, he's simply hoping that Ren's version of The First Order will result in him being able to step up and take charge of whatever remains. His fate isn't revealed in this outline but it can't be good!
Rey's Jedi Order
Bear in mind that five years are supposed to have passed since the events of The Last Jedi, so Rey is now far more knowledgeable in the ways of the Force and many of those in tune with it - both young and old - have ended up seeking her out for protection from the Knights of Ren. Despite that, she and Kylo still communicate via the Force and "can even manifest their whole presence in front of each other." I'm not sure if that means they're physically there but I don't think that's the case.
Either way, it's said that these two "secretly love each other," something which some fans will no doubt be happy with while others will hate. Then again, it seems it sets the stage for a pretty big twist...
The Big Reveal
While Rey and Kylo have somehow fallen in love, it seems the former has been busy elsewhere because she confesses to the former Ben Solo that one of her students is, in fact, her son. Is Kylo the father? Is Finn? Poe? Someone totally random? Or wait, has the baby been created by the Force?
That's not revealed here but Kylo is said to be so furious by this revelation that he very nearly kills Rey and is stopped by the last minute by Leia (who, again, isn't expected to appear here in any way).
It's a weird twist and one which could be even more controversial than many of the decisions made by Rian Johnson in The Last Jedi. When you think about it, though, much of this does make some sense.
Should We Believe This "Leak"?
Honestly, it's hard to say. A lot of what's here makes sense and a lot is borderline laughable but would you have believed some of The Force Awakens and The Last Jedi's controversial twists and turns had they leaked online beforehand? Many of them did but most fans chose to ignore them and it was only after the fact we all realised how surprisingly accurate a lot of those actually were.
We're clearly just going to have to wait and see but seeing as J.J. Abrams has probably significantly reworked Episode IX since replacing Colin Trevorrow as writer and director, don't be too surprised if only very small elements - or none at all - from this plot leak end up making the final cut.
