Earlier this month, fans were treated to a first look at Disney and Lucasfilm's new animated series, Star Wars Resistance. The new show, which is set between the events of  Return of the Jedi and The Force Awakens, follows the adventures of Kazuda Xiono, a young pilot recruited by the Resistance for a top-secret mission to spy on the growing threat of the First Order. As the trailer revealed, fans will meet a diverse cast of characters, including those who will be working alongside Kaz on Colossus, a massive refueling platform on an outer rim ocean planet.

These new characters will make up Team Fireball, a crew of mechanics and pilots aboard Colossus who must work together to "try and win races to survive and make money." In a newly released video featurette, courtesy of EW, show creator Dave Filoni and the voice cast of Star Wars Resistance offer details for each of their characters. Additionally, we have brand new images from the show, including the one below which features all five members of Team Fireball (from left to right: Bucket, Kazuda, Neeku, Tam, and Yeager).

As explained in the video, most of Team Fireball are unaware of Kaz's secret mission, except for Jarek Yeager, a former Rebellion pilot now living a quiet life as a mechanic who is called back into action by General Leia Organa and Poe Dameron. Speaking of Leia, we also have our first look at her in the show, appearing as a hologram and giving direction to Poe Dameron, who will be voiced by Oscar Isaac. As previously revealed, Leia will be voiced by Rachel Butera. Other fan-favorite characters including BB-8 and Captain Phasma (Gwendoline Christie) will also appear in the show. Check out the video feature and new images for  Star Wars Resistance below.

Star Wars Resistance is set to premiere on Sunday, October 7 at 10:00 p.m. EDT on Disney Channel and Disney Now.

@MalseMarcel - no, you're wrong. It's EXTREMELY cringy that the droid wears a helmet.

People have said that Star Wars has already reinvented itself a couple of times, and for each generation it has developed a different aesthetic, and emphasizes different aspects of the universe, sometimes even changing the canon. But what hasn't been handled yet is how far something like this can progress before it's no longer the same thing. How far can it drift before you have to say it's just a totally new thing with only some of the trappings of the original left?

@FleischerSupes - preface: not being condescending here, but...

isn't that the definition of a spinoff? Which, like, by definition, is what all the shows are?
FleischerSupes
FleischerSupes - 8/29/2018, 11:49 AM
@ftf530 - Totally, but is it still "Star Wars"? Maybe so but at what point could spinoffs no longer resemble the the spirit and concepts of the source material enough to deserve the name?
ftf530
ftf530 - 8/29/2018, 12:49 PM
@FleischerSupes - Hm. It's an odd situation because they want to take the name Star Wars and treat it like Marvel, but since Marvel is a brand of brands and Star Wars IS the brand...

hm. Idk.

I think it's a situation where they'll continue using the name just to keep the world cohesive, even if it no longer fits the stories of that world, which may be a problem.

Glad to see Scott Lawrence working on Star Wars again, back when I only had Italian VHS tapes to watch Star Wars he was THE english voice of Darth Vader to me because of all the Lucasarts Star Wars games he voiced.

I think I could see Elle Fanning as Supergirl.

A show that looks awful and cheap. The excuse: is for children. The worst thing is that people get to accept this type of crap.
ThunderThighs
ThunderThighs - 8/29/2018, 12:15 PM
@fundamentallyOT - This excuse always bothered me, because it assumes that kids are too dumb to see flaws or to compare good and bad shows.

fundamentallyOT - 8/29/2018, 1:01 PM
@BootyPeep - Agree. If you give first quality products to children. They grow appreciating the efforts made to produce such cartoons: Mazinger Z, Thundercats, He-Man, Thundarr the Barbarian, X-men come to mind!

Disney wants to make a profit without investing!

I don't like the designs. I don't like the whole look of the show. It's like Borderlands (which looks good) but you've removed the outlines and upped the contrast (which makes it looks bad).

Why is everyone so weird and skinny? Every body type is the exact same, even the stormtroopers.

@Nebula - A show closer to what Disney intends to do miserably, can be found in Godzilla Monster Planet. Unlike SW resistance, the show does not look cheap!

It might be the case that Disney doesn't want to launch quality shows to this kids so that when they grow up, they are not demanding and accept whatever is given to them!

Much as I'd like it to be different - I don't think they can make anything post-ROTJ appeal to me anymore. I just don't see the point.

But I still hope people can find enjoyment in this, especially the clearly targeted younglings.
ftf530
ftf530 - 8/29/2018, 12:59 PM
@Kyos - I still wish we could have had an actual movie or flashbacks in a movie to address the timeline between the two.

They've breezed over it so quickly it's kinda disappointing.

Like, regardless of your opinion on TLJ, we should have had more than a total of 10 seconds within the pre-birth of Kylo Ren era.
Kyos
Kyos - 8/29/2018, 1:22 PM
@ftf530 - Absolutely agreed. There's so little transistion between the OT and TFA/TLJ that I find it hard to care about or even understand certain things.

And now there's next to nothing left of the OT characters' legacy except the Falcon and the main villain, and the story's just running around in the hamster wheel of 'Rebellion vs Empire: Idiot Edition'.

ftf530 - 8/29/2018, 1:28 PM
@Kyos - talk about a huge missed opportunity to do a prequel that actually serves the surrounding films instead of doing Solo

I always thought it would have been cool to see that fall apart from the view of another Jedi who was kinda a shit kid but then turns it around and tragically dies to save his family from the knights of ren when they all turn on Luke and massacre everyone

@ftf530 - It would've been cool to see it on the big screen, but because it's too late for that now, why not explore it in the expanded universe? I mean, Resistance is quite a lazy idea for a show, feels like Rebels 2.0...

I have really enjoyed the past 2 star wars animated series. I am looking forward to this one. The droid looks to have a similar disposition as BB-8 and Chopper.
