When
Star Wars: Galaxy's Edge welcomes Disney World guests to the planet of Batuu this week, it will be an incomplete experience - as is the version that opened in Disneyland earlier this year. That's because only one of the two planned attractions (
Millennium Falcon: Smugglers Run) is ready to go. The second,
Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance, won't actually be ready until later this year or early next year, depending on the park.
Disney has been pretty tight-lipped when it comes to its second main attraction, which has only been described as putting guests
"in the middle of an epic battle between the Resistance and the First Order."
But today, Disney Parks Blog finally lifted the lid, sharing specific details and offering a first look inside the ride. And it seriously looks like something out of a movie.
Rise of the Resistance is described as one of the
"most ambitious, advanced and immersive experiences ever undertaken by Walt Disney Imagineering." It is also one of the largest rides Disney has ever created, housing two full-size AT-AT walkers and a Star Destroyer hangar bay — complete with a TIE fighter and garrison of Stormtroopers (as shown below).
As for the premise of the ride, it will
"blur the lines between fantasy and reality" as guests will join the Resistance and depart from Batuu in a transport ship to meet General Leia Organa at a secret rendezvous point.
Along the way, however, you will be captured by a First Order Star Destroyer. The action then ramps up as you seek to escape the clutches of Kylo Ren and the First Order – with the help of some heroes of the Resistance.
Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance will open at
Star Wars: Galaxy's Edge on December 5, 2019 in Disney's Hollywood Studios (in Florida) and January 17, 2020 in Disneyland park (in California).
