Super 8 Plot Details Finally Revealed!

The highly secretive JJ Abrams, with a bit of urging from producer Steven Spielberg, finally reveals some plot details for his upcoming film Super 8

JJ Abrams has a history of keeping his projects as top secret as possible, whether it be films or television. Even with his trailers, he does little to reveal any plot details, character info or designs of aliens for that matter. When the Cloverfield teaser first hit, it had everyone asking questions and very little was answered until we saw a final trailer, literally weeks before it was released. It seemed as hough Abrams was headed in that same direction with his latest film Super 8, but with a little urging from producer Steven Spielberg, he finally released some info to the Los Angeles Times.

He started things off by giving this statement:

“This is the first time I’ve talked about the movie with anybody that wasn’t working on it,”

As far as what the film is actually about, Abrams and the LA Times gave us some decent information.

The Paramount Pictures release is set in Ohio in 1979 and introduces a troupe of six youngsters who are using a Super 8 camera to make their own zombie movie. One fateful night, their project takes them to a lonely stretch of rural railroad tracks and, as the camera rolls, calamity strikes — a truck collides with an oncoming locomotive and a hellacious derailment fills the night with screaming metal and raining fire. Then something emerges from the wreckage, something decidedly inhuman.

I'm guessing that the author of the article has seen bits of this film, because they gave some comparisons to other films, and an idea of what to expect from the potential blockbuster movie.

"So, ladies and gentlemen, meet 'Super 8,' a sci-fi film that has the monster-on-the-loose vibe of 'Fringe' (another television show that Abrams co-created) or 'The X-Files' as well as a throwback spirit that in many ways evokes 'E.T.: The Extra-Terrestrial,' 'Stand by Me' and maybe even 'The Goonies.'"

ecksmanfan: Being that I am a child of the 80's, I really like the idea of this film, and definitely the films he's used as an inspiration for Super 8. I wasn't not a huge fan of Cloverfield, but it was still enetertaining. This one looks to be at least as good, if not better.

Super 8 stars Elle Fanning, Kyle Chandler, Amanda Milchaka, Ron Eldard and Noah Emmerich. It is set to release June 10, 2011.

deffinately going to watch this. i followed as much of the viral stuff for cloverfield as possible and it deffinately pushed it up into my top ten films of the naughties. Abrams originality is realy outstanding in a seemingly more stagnant pool of creativity in hollywood.

Sounds good. maybe. It sounds like it could have a lot of the same weaknesses as Cloverfield. Wayy too much screaming and running and not nearly enough monster

In my opinion, JJ Abrams has always been hype over style over substance

I thought a mini cloverfield-ish monster was a better plot than these random films they compared it to lol. Goonies is in no way connected to ET other than the rating. Is this film going to be PG?

^ wow im convinced... /sarcasm
I really enjoyed Cloverfield, the movie wasn't so much about the monster, it was about what we would see and experience if something as epic as that actually happened. No one would know what was going on and there would be chaos everywhere. It portrayed really well what we as common folk would do (and know) in a situation like that (try and help our friends and just try n survive). I still cant believe more movies are actually like that, it gives it a more realistic aspect to it. I for one enjoyed the movie from start to finish.

i was hoping for "something".. I liked the close-to-the-chest privacy with this movie making me think something big is about to happen.. The tv spot showed me something that reminded me of an "after school special" with no real depth. Are we still getting teased?

This info is just the teaser trailer in words. No real
new info here. But the secrecy works - my curiosity

TV Spot was awesome and this sounds good, too. I hope the movie can deliver at least some of the E.T. magic and that the story is somewhat satisfying (unlike LOST).
