Now,
I know this movie came out in May. I saw the movie in May. You all REVIEWED the movie in May. So I'm a little late. Sue me. This review covers not only the movie but also the DVD. First off: The Movie!

Despite what many have claimed, I found this movie to be a worthy continuation in a franchise that has been around since before I was born. That said, it is DEFINITLEY not a perfect movie by any rate. For those of you who have not seen it, beware of spoilers.

I'll go over the BAD first. I like Christian Bale. He is an AWESOME Batman. And his other works ROCK as well. But this time he comes across as a little wooden and there is hardly any development of his character. Another wasted opportunity was the character of Marcus. We are introduced to this guy from the get-go and quite honestly is the highlight of the film. He develops from this apathetic prisoner on death row to this hero that would rival the John Connor of legend. So why kill him off? It was absolutely pointless to make him the only real character I cared about and then kill him off just to make sure Bale lives.

That being said, this film has many more good points. This movie is the ultimate homage to the original two Terminators! By the end of the movie, John actually has some of the battle scars depicted in the flashforward sequence in T2!! The action is also way more intense and makes me feel like a war is going on. And then there are the Terminators: various and many. From the AWESOME Mototerminators to the Matrix ripoff Hydroterminators to the T-800! No, Ahnold isn't in the picture really. It's a CGI render of what he looked like in the first movie. But at least they are treating this franchise with respect!

With an interesting story, breathtaking action sequences, and an all star cast, I highly recommend this movie.

Unfortunately, I am still playing DVDs and would recommend the BluRay. And WB has decided to drastically try to entice people to switch to BluRay by giving the upgrade all of the features and the Director's Cut. The DVD gets zip. But Wait! There is still hope for those of you who can't afford the switch to BluRay yet.

Target has an exclusive 2-Disc Digital Copy Edition of the Director's Cut of the film! This comes with two of the three features of the BluRay and of course the Director's Cut of the film! If you buy it this week, it will only cost $22.99. I'm sure by next week it will change to it's regular $24.99 price.

Now do not get your hopes up about the Director's Cut. Even though the director, McG, promised us a cut with an additional thirty or forty minutes of footage, wait for it.... We only get three. That's right. Only three extra minutes of footage. In my opinion, I can barely tell the difference between cuts unless they were pointed out to me. Which they were.

The special features last only for about half an hour but hey. Half an hour is better than no special features at all.

So, lets recap:

Here we have an AWESOME movie with some bad plot points, a CRAPPY regular DVD, a Meh Exclusive DVD, and a Bleh Director's Cut.

Now for the scores:
Movie
Performance: 7
Effects/Action: 8
Story: 6
Total: 7 out of 10

DVD
Movie: 7
Special Features: 4
Total: 5.5 out of 10

I thought the film was pretty good. Definitely not as good as T2 but it made me interested in the terminator franchise again.
