THE DARK TOWER Starring Idris Elba And Matthew McConaughey Has Been Delayed Yet Again

Originally set to be released in February, the big screen adaptation of Stephen King's The Dark Tower was pushed back to July. Well, it's now once again been pushed back by Sony Pictures, but why?

The Dark Tower series is damn near impossible to adapt, hence why Nikolaj Arcel's movie will serve as a sequel of sorts as Roland Deschain embarks on his final journey to the titular location.

While we originally expected the movie to be released last month, Sony Pictures pushed The Dark Tower back because attempts were reportedly being made to keep the project on budget while visual effects were finished properly (rather than rushed). A new July slot was given to the Stephen King adaptation, a sign of confidence that the studio believes they have a potential summer blockbuster here. Well, the date has been shifted yet again, but it's not quite so bad this time.

In order to give The Emoji
Movie more time to play in theaters while children are home from school over the summer, Sony has shifted that to July and placed The Dark Tower in its August 4th release date. That's still a good time and is only a difference of a week, so really no big deal. Word out of CinemaCon has been massively positive and the trailer is expected to be released literally any day now.

ok so I cant stand the idea of what theyve done to what this couldve been. all along the argument was that they couldnt pull off a viable trilogy and tie-in netflix series. but years later after languishing in production hell were getting this bastardized version of King's Magnum Opus, when since then with the successes of Marvel Netflix and MCU film sequencing, not to mention other series successes like Stranger Things (which is basically a page out of the King playbook), they've proven that the original assumption was completely incorrect.

@scapegoatjones - give me the OG ka-tet or gtfo. making this means they'll never do the source material justice.

@scapegoatjones - It's a sequel to the books not an adaptation. King's even given his consent on the story elements they're using.

@theshark2012 - it was a truncated decision made out of the desperation of not making anything at all. I wont comment on the casting.

This project has my attention. Plus Idris Elba and Matthew cconaughey is worth the ticket alone.

But seriously, the Emoji movie needs room to shine, peeps.

It is the front runner for best picture at next years Academy Awards.

I heard Patrick Stewart is getting a supporting actor nomination for his role as 💩

You thought he was gonna get one as Professor X? HAHAHAHA

The dark tower would have been perfect on amc as a 7 season series. With the walking dead, preacher, and into the badlands it would have fit in nice with them.

The Emoji Movie? Really? Sounds like it has as much potential as Pixels.

I'm waiting for the people who think a DC movie delay means it stinks and they're in damage control mode. Should apply to this too, no?

@CoolJerk - Well, the last push back was to Oscar season for Aquaman, so I doubt that's a lack of confidence in the film. Idk. About this. Seriously. The Emoji Movie? I laughed upon reading this.

@CoolJerk - Oh, yeah. Even at their worst, DC Films and Warner Bros. are ten times better than Sony.

A buddy of mine went to a screening of it. Said it was absolutely terrible. They might as well called it something entirely different since it's so far opposite of the novels. He did say Elba was the best part, though.

This should have been a TV series, Game of Thrones style, and Roland should have looked like a middle-aged Clint Eastwood. I have nothing against Elba, but his casting just doesn't fit with the images I have in my mind since I've read the novels.
I'm still going to give it a chance, though.
Right now, I'm listening to this awesome playlist, it really sounds like The Dark Tower to me :

I dunno about "word being massively positive." The one write-up I read said the footage was incredibly generic, and lacked the touches that made the source material unique, or even a vague understanding of the source material.

Plus, I mean, Akiva Goldsman.
