THE HUNGER GAMES: MOCKINGJAY - Part 1 Will Have 2014's Biggest Opening

Michael Bay's Transformers: Age of Extinction currently has the best opening of any film that was released in 2014, but that will soon change once The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part 1 is released. Plus, two new television spots to watch.

Marvel's Guardians of the Galaxy opened in North America with $94M and Captain America: The Winter Soldier topped that with $95M, but the big kid on the block was Michael Bay's Transformers Age of Extinction, which pulled in $100M. All of that is fine and dandy, but The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part 1 is about to blow them all out of the water. According to Variety, the Hunger Games sequel is expected to gross $130M. Which is spectacular, but it would actually be the worst domestic opening for the franchise. 2012's The Hunger Games pulled in $152M and The Hunger Games: Catching Fire grossed $158M in its debut weekend.
Online ticketer Fandango says the film sold more first day advance tickets than any other movie in 2014 so far.

The worldwide phenomenon of The Hunger Games continues to set the world on fire with The Hunger Games: Mockingjay - Part 1, which finds Katniss Everdeen (Jennifer Lawrence) in District 13 after she literally shatters the games forever. Under the leadership of President Coin (Julianne Moore) and the advice of her trusted friends, Katniss spreads her wings as she fights to save Peeta (Josh Hutcherson) and a nation moved by her courage. The Hunger Games: Mockingjay - Part 1 is directed by Francis Lawrence from a screenplay by Danny Strong and Peter Craig and produced by Nina Jacobson's Color Force in tandem with producer Jon Kilik. The novel on which the film is based is the third in a trilogy written by Suzanne Collins that has over 65 million copies in print in the U.S. alone.

Lionsgate presents, a Color Force / Lionsgate production, a Francis Lawrence film.

This is the only film this year that could beat GOTG at the Domestic box-office.
Hell I think this is the only film that could beat Transformer Age of Extinction in the World wide box-office.
Never underestimate the frenzy of fans.

Really enjoyed the first two movies. However, the trailers hasn't been that great. Will still see it opening weekend, but nowhere near as excited as I was earlier this year.
