Deadline reports that Ridley Scott's
Prometheus is set to storm the North American box office this weekend with an impressive $26M opening today and a $68M weekend in total. Some analysts are even predicting $70M+. The 3D sci-fi epic took $3.561M at midnight screenings and has so far earned a total of $51M overseas. It was thought that the R-Rated movie would struggle to topple DreamWorks Animation's
Madagascar 3: Europe's Most Wanted, but that is now likely to open with (an equally impressive) $18M Friday and $57M weekend. Read my 5* review of
Prometheus by clicking

UPDATE: A Fox exec now tells the site, "There is no mathematical scenario I know of that we hit $68M. Even at $26M for today, we get to $66.5M – and there is nothing on this green earth that shows us hitting $26M today. I could see us doing $22M today which would likely get us to $56M." Regardless, there's no getting around the fact that this would still be a fantastic opening for Prometheus.
