With a reported $220 million budget, Luc Besson's highly ambitious upcoming film adaptation of Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets is surely one the biggest films hitting the silver screen this summer, but whether or not it'll be able to find an audience in a crowded July, which will also see the releases of Marvel's Spider-Man: Homecoming, 20th Century Fox's War for the Planet of the Apes, and Warner Bros.' Dunkirk, is yet-to-be-seen.

After releasing a new theatrical one-sheet last week, STX Entertainment (via Mashable) has debuted eight new characters posters that spotlight the main players, including the operatives played by Dane DeHaan, Cara Delevingne, and Rihanna.

Check out the new posters below and click through for hi-res versions:

I hate to be this guy, but every trailer I've seen makes this movie look like crap. Maybe it will be good, but the trailers aren't doing any justice for it. John Carter was another film that the trailer was bad, but the movie turned out better than it looked.

@BlackIceJoe - John Carter was pretty bad bro. To me, the trailer looked way better than the movie was.

@WruceBayne - I'm not saying the movie was good, I just think the trailers gave off a different vibe to what the trailers made the movie out to be.

I'm looking forward to this! Not sold on the two leads, though, and worried about a potential lack of mass appeal.

Poor, poor Dane Dehaan. The guy is expected to carry a film where he has to work off of Rhianna AND Cara Delevingne. The guy never had a chance.....

I don't know wy anyone would cast Rhianna in anything. That is just bad judgement.

I am pretty excited for this movie, it looks like they are adapting the movie, very close to the comics. I wouldn't hesitate to call the original source material for ground breaking.

Valerian and Laureline Was created in 1967, and was some very advanced sci-fi stories for the period. Especially the art was fantastic. So if anybody is wondering why it has so much Fifth Elementh look and feel over it, it is because the artist, Jean-Claude Mézières, artistic consultant on the movie.

And yes, George Lucas was more than inspired by Valerian and Laureline. Just look at these pictures:
