War Games: Getting Ready For a Reboot

According to Deadline, War Games is going to get the reboot treatment from MGM, and to be fair this is one great film that would actually benefit from the reboot treatment -- IF it's done properly.

King of Kong and Horrible Bosses director Seth Gordon is expected to helm.

In the original, Matthew Broderick starred as a computer hacker who inadvertently accesses a government defense system and essentially sets the "game board" for World War III that will have very real consequences if the system can't be shut down by its creator.

Of the appeal of a reboot, Deadline says, "In terms of computer games, kids were playing Pong back then; the level of sophistication with vidgames and the Internet in the digital age opens a wealth of possibilities, and Gordon will be given a wide berth to create a new take on the tale."

John Badham directed the 1983 original. A recent made-for-DVD "sequel" was actually more of a pale remake that flopped.
