Does SHANG-CHI AND THE LEGEND OF THE TEN RINGS Take Place At The Same Time As SPIDER-MAN: NO WAY HOME?

Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings director Destin Daniel Cretton has addressed Doctor Strange's absence, and it sounds like the movie takes place at the same time as Spider-Man: No Way Home...

We know Wong will make an appearance in Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings, but where's Doctor Strange? If that fight tournament has the sort of stakes we've been led to believe, then you'd think the Sorcerer Supreme would take on The Abomination!

In the first Spider-Man: No Way Home trailer, we saw Wong setting off for parts unknown, leading many fans to wonder if the events of that movie take place at the same time as Shang-Chi

Talking to Bro Bible, filmmaker Destin Daniel Cretton suggested that there is a good reason for Strange's absence. "I will respond by saying you’re not alone in asking that question and there is a very clear answer to that question. All of those types of, ‘Where people are in the universe at this particular moment,’ there are clear reasons why Doctor Strange is not there."

"I wish we could’ve put Doctor Strange in our movie," the director added. "But there are very clear reasons why the characters who showed up could show up very briefly, there’s also a very clear reason why they’re not physically in the room. But, all of that is a big conversation with Kevin [Feige] and the producers and directors who are working on other things."

We're now pretty confident that the reason for Strange's absence is indeed because he's helping Peter Parker as he deals with the Multiverse (of Madness), and it's likely we'll learn more when Spider-Man: No Way Home is released. Wong is expected to have a leading role in the next Doctor Strange movie, of course, so we certainly don't think the upcoming sequel is the reason for his Shang-Chi absence.

Thought the same thing. Wonder why Strange has time for a kid and not for Abomination though

There is a calendar that shows that they are in the same month as Wanda and Vision's anniversary so it likely also runs concurrently with WandaVision

@Evansly - Don't think so. Wandavision happened immediately after Blip in August 2023. FFH happened 8 months after blip meaning Summer 2024. If NWH take place after, had to be Winter 2024.

@Waddles - lol. I hope Beyonder or Cthon, I prefer those over Mephisto. Mephisto saved for Ghost Rider and Midnight Sons makes more sense.

But in reality, I think that all this "orchestration" is because Wanda became the Scarlet Witch. The Chaos magic is now flowing throughout the MCU and that is why HWR wasn't able to predict anymore. She will be the destroyer of the world as Agatha said.

Also, Wandavision takes place in 2023 for sure. August 23 on this calendar is listed as a Wednesday. Nearest date since the blip for this to make sense is 2023. The prop team knows what they're doing since this is shared universe. Either way, way off from the 2024 timeline of FFH and NWH.

@Evansly - Wandavision takes place in October. The Halloween episode indicates this.

Probably headed to Kamar Taj to check in on some things.

While there, he discovers The Mandarin is up to something and gets involved in that briefly. This leads him to the tournament to look for Shang's sister for answers and they all cross paths.

Kinda OT but not really: There's been a suggestion online (by people like you and me who like to guess about these things but really have no idea) that the Doctor Strange we saw in the trailer is actually a variant and he's gonna be one of the "big bads" in NWH. Thoughts?
