Jessica Henwick played Colleen Wing over the course of two seasons of the now defunct Iron Fist series, and even though the show was arguably the least popular of Marvel's Netflix projects, the Game of Thrones alum's take on the "Daughter of the Dragon" was met with a very positive response, with fans looking forward to seeing more of Wing's dynamic with Misty Knight (Simone Missick).
Now, Henwick has revealed that she very nearly returned to the MCU for a role in Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings, but was forced to pass on the opportunity in order to play Bugs in The Matrix Resurrections.
In what the actress describes as a "red-pill/blue-pill moment for me," she tells EW that both Disney and Warner Bros. were aware of the competing studio's offer and gave her an ultimatum: She could only audition for their project if she forfeited the other.
Henwick doesn't name the character she would have played in Shang-Chi, but there's already been some speculation that she might have been asked to reprise the role of Colleen Wing. While it does look like Marvel Studios will be bringing back some cast members from the Netflix shows to portray different versions of their characters in The MCU, it seems far more likely that she would have played the part of Xialing (Meng'er Zhang).
Whoever she would have played, it's certainly interesting that Henwick chose Resurrections over the chance to join a mega-franchise like the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
