Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings is set to introduce a new Marvel Legend, and fans are already anxious to learn more about what role the title hero will play in the MCU moving forward.
It's too early for sequel talk, but you just know Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige has mapped out the next few years for his latest addition to this shared world, and star Simu Liu already has some ideas about where he'd like to take the character next, with a crossover with Spider-Man on his radar.
In the "Spider-Island" storyline, Peter Parker loses his Spider-Sense and turns to Shang-Chi for help. His fellow hero teaches him some new moves, and that proves crucial to the wall-crawler as he attempts to get to grips with his newfound status quo (which didn't last too long). Talking to Screen Rant, Liu explained what it is about that storyline he hopes to bring to a live-action setting.
"There’s this very famous story in which Shang-Chi and Spider-Man have a little team-up moment. I don’t know if you’re familiar with this, but in the comics, Spider-Man needs a little bit of help with his martial arts; he needs to brush up a little bit," the actor explains. "And [Shang-Chi] says, 'Yeah, I’ll help you, I’ll develop a whole style based on your abilities' - and they call it the Way of the Spider. I’m outing myself as a huge comic book nerd.
"But that’s something I really want to see and I really hope that Kevin [Feige] gets to see this interview so that he can potentially put it in a future movie somewhere."
This would be awesome, and is definitely a moment we could see at some point. Remember, Tom Holland has at least one more appearance as Spider-Man in the MCU lined up, and we'd be willing to bet that Marvel Studios is saving that for a future team-up movie that may or may not also include Shang-Chi.
Which heroes - or villains - would you like this newest addition to the MCU to cross paths with?
