SHANG-CHI Halts Production As Director Destin Daniel Cretton Is Advised To Self-Isolate

Cameras had only just started rolling on Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings in Australia (you can check out the first set photos here), and now production has been forced to cease due to, you guessed it, our old pal coronavirus.

According to THR, director Destin Daniel Cretton has been advised to self-isolate, and Disney has decided to suspend first unit production until gets the results. Insiders insist that the Marvel movie is not completely shutting down, however, second unit and other production aspects will continue to move ahead.

Cretton hadn't developed any symptoms, but with a new baby ay home and more and more cases of COVID-19 coming to light in Australia, he decided not to take any chances.

Here's the note that was sent out to the movie's crew.

As many of you know, Destin, our director, has a new born baby. He wanted to exercise additional caution given the current environment and decided to get tested for Covid-19 today. He is currently self-isolating under the recommendation of his doctor. While he waits for the results of the test, we are suspending 1st unit production in an abundance of caution until he gets the results this coming week. Second unit and off production will continue as normal. We will reach out to everyone by Tuesday for the latest update.

This is an unprecedented time. We appreciate everyone’s understanding as we work through this.

Completely understand his decision given the circumstances. Hoping things get sorted out and he gets the camera rolling again soon.

Good on him for self-isolating, and good on the Australian govt. for getting testing properly sorted

If MCU is gonna make date changes, I feel like every one is gonna move up to the next one outside of Spidey 3 staying put in July

They should shift the slate one movie, it would suck but I think in the end it would help Disney more.

So Black Widow in November, Eternals in February, Shang Chi in May, etc

Not surprised. Most of the 2021 films' productions will be halted. Lots of dates will shift

I know a lot of people are focusing on the health issue but I'm really curious as to how this will affect everything else, the global economy especially. Shits just getting started and its going to get worse for a bit.

Everything that was supposed to come out in 2020 will be shifted a good 9 months to a year, so anything that was supposed to come out in 2021, will now be shifted almost a year out to 2022. Even Mission Impossible and F9 will also be shifted over a year. Paramount might delay Top Gun Maverick as well, thanks Coronavirus.
