SHANG-CHI Spoilers: Here's What Happens In The Marvel Movie's Post-Credits Scenes

As it is with most Marvel Studios movies, Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings features a pair of after-credits stingers (one mid, one post), and we break down what happens in each of them below.

If you haven't seen the movie yet, it goes without saying that major spoilers follow.

The mid-credits scene is a doozy, as it all-but establishes the Master of Martial Arts as a future member of the new lineup of Avengers. The final scene of the film sees Wong pay a visit to Shang-Chi and Katy in a restaurant as they're recounting their adventures to a pair of skeptical friends. The sorcerer then opens a portal, and the three of them step through it.

After the main credits, we see our somewhat bewildered heroes speaking to Captain Marvel (Brie Larson) and Bruce Banner (Mark Ruffalo) - who is now human again! - via holo-projection. Banner tells them that they'll be in touch, and while the details are a little vague, it's clear that they'll both be needed for something before too long. Wong then tells them to go home and get some rest, but Katy has a better idea, and we cut to the three of 'em singing drunken karaoke.

The post-credits scene probably won't have as much of a bearing on the future of the MCU, but it does seemingly set-up a Shang-Chi sequel. The sequence begins with Xialing back at her father's base, as we see Razor-Fist enter and tell his new ally that "they're ready for her." The daughter of Wenwu then walks outside and takes her place as the new leader of the Ten Rings. We assume she will turn the organization into a force for good, but that remains to be seen!

Have you had a chance to see Shang-Chi yet? If so, what did you make of these scenes? Let us know in the usual place, and check out our review at the link below.

Random theory: I wonder if the signal could be related to Namor??

@ThorArms - I think the post credit scene is related to Celestials. After Eternals, they will be important to the future of the MCU.

@Repian - Could be…could be anything though, but fun to theorize - which is what they want obviously

@Repian - After Wong's emphasis on how much older the rings are, it does feel like the origins of them will be somewhat explained in the Eternals.

Guess the holo-project network lead in Endgame is still in place. And Hulk also being able to transform to human form comes in handy for the She-Hulk budget

@bkmeijer - Hopefully we get more of an explanation for it than we got for Smart Hulk

bkmeijer2 - 9/3/2021, 2:11 AM
@dracula - I hope so too, but I doubt it honestly. Most of his character developments happen off-screen, though they might explain some things in She-Hulk

@bkmeijer - yup that has been 1 of the major flaws of phase 3, everything for hulk happens off screen.

I can get them doing the Hulk developing a personality off screen, but smart hulk? Could have fit in a bit of Hulk and Banner finding common ground in Infinity War and do the bursting out the suit thing before the end, just give Banner a line, talking to the hulk, then his eyes turn green and he burst out, not perfect but would be enough

@dracula - could've even done without Hulk bursting out. Instead of "we're gonna need to talk pal", it could've been "I'll do this now, then you're gonna have to do your part later"

@bkmeijer - Banner combined the two in Hulk form but he never said he couldn't return to human form.

@JonC - I guess thats true. He figured out how to became Hulk and keep his Banner brains, so it's not weird to assume he can become normal Banner too indeed

@Frshcoupe - brie Larson enters the chat.

Brie: is that like a personal attack?

@ThorArms - even Rocket was making fun of her for having so many hairstyles... so now they leave it messy and that is an issue too?

@JonC - did I say I had a problem with all her hairstyles? No.

what happens in the first few minutes? I missed the first minutes because I had to wait 22 minutes for my ticket, it took a while because they controlled 10-12 vaccination certificates, they were slow af, I entered the cinema hall when Wenwu and his wife were fighting

@WaffeX - They show the rise of the 10 rings. Wenwu conquering places.

@WaffeX - That's a shame; no one at the theater cared about our vaccination certificates. I'm glad someone answered your question.

@WaffeX - You didn’t miss much. It was just them explaining that Wenwu was a conqueror and showed him using the rings to take a city. It was cool but you didn’t miss anything vital

@LSHF - That was hilarious and perfect. Def caught me by surprise. I thought they would just address him not have him play a significant portion toward the end.

Can we appreciate how Wong is really turning into one of the coolest and most important characters in the current MCU?! Dude's amazing.

Saw the credits scenes on YouTube. Nice to see Banner's arm isn't burnt anymore. Next time we see him after Shang Chi, he should be completely healed.

Also, I guess he has the ability to turn back into his normal self, or be Professor Hulk?

JonC - 9/3/2021, 10:40 AM
@KWilly - if Hulk gets Banner's brain... what does Banner get? LOL

The rings are calling to the other dimensional cities Michelle Yeoh mentioned.

Cough…Heavenly cities…COUGH

@BlackBeltJones - tell me
Repian
Repian - 9/3/2021, 8:56 AM
@BlackBeltJones - It would be interesting if the ten rings summon The Seven Captial Cities of Heaven. Then, K'un-Lun appears. So the capital cities of heaven wage war on Earth.
GhostDog
GhostDog - 9/3/2021, 9:11 AM
@Repian - That's what I am thinking. Maybe the twist will be that the rings are one of the immortal weapons and Wenwu stole it ages ago.

Shang using them to vanquish a dimensional beast makes them a beacon now. The tournament of the seven cities must be had to determine if war will be waged.

Let the tournament begin
TheRose
TheRose - 9/4/2021, 5:52 AM
@BlackBeltJones - I love this idea, but I imagine they are planning to change up the 7 cities. Ta Lo and K'un-Lun are great options to get things started. I wouldn't mind seeing the Makluans get a city as well and entering Fin Fang Foom into the tournament. Hell, they could add Kamar-Taj, Wakanda and Atlantis into the mix and it wouldn't surprise me.

Whatever they do, I need to see Fat Cobra and Bride of Nine Spiders on screen. I know the latter showed up in Daredevil...but that's a part of the Netflix Canon I wouldn't mind retconning.
GhostDog
GhostDog - 9/4/2021, 6:14 AM
@TheRose - the bride in iron fist was ROUGH. Not even really here.

Would love to see Fat Cobra done right.
