SHAZAM! Confirmed To Shoot In February 2018; Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson Will NOT Appear As Black Adam

We recently got wind of a rumor that Shazam! would be the next Warner Bros. DC movie to shoot, and that's now been confirmed. Also, don't expect to see The Rock suit-up as the villainous Black Adam...

On the heels of a recent rumor that Warner Bros.' Shazam! movie would begin filming early next year, THR has now confirmed that cameras will indeed roll in January or February of 2018, with a 2019 release date in mind. That will be followed by the Suicide Squad sequel, which is eyeing a mid-2018 shoot.

The trade has also confirmed that "the story about a crippled boy-turned-Earth's mightiest mortal" will be directed by David Sandberg, whose next project is the upcoming horror sequel, Annabelle: Creation.

Plus, those hoping to see Dwayne Johnson's Black Adam make his debut in this movie will be disappointed, as it turns out the character is being saved for a spinoff that's being developed concurrently to Shazam!

Expect to hear more about this at SDCC this weekend.

@DoctorShadow - Save Black Adam for the sequel and have him fight Dr. Sivana, Mr. Atom, or Ibac in the first one.

@soberchimera - There wont' be a sequel. Stupid WB putting the horse before the cart, again.

@Luminus - how is it putting the cart before the horse if they are going with the original early stories of captain marvel that has nothing to do with Black Adam instead of shoehorning him in for audience recognition and appeal?

@DoctorShadow - right?! its not like saving the arch nemesis for a sequel ever resulted in one of the greatest comic book movies of all time.......

@EnnisFan - Oops! I meant cart before the horse.

I'm mean, they're planning a sequel, before they even know if they've got a hit on their hands. What if the film bombs like Green Lantern? Then what? The egg on their faces will be massive.

@Luminus - it's fine I didn't even realize haha, I understand what you mean but in reality a lot of studios do this, even look at the MCU, they release slates beforehand, think of black Adam not as a sequel but just an introduction of a new character into the DCEU which I personally think he has every right to stand on his own, I find his story more interesting than Shazams honestly, he's like a mix of Dr. Doom Black Panther and Injustice Superman in all the best ways

Since Lights Out was pretty decent and Anabelle: Creation seems to be a good movie...

This is the equivalent of saying "Thor's first solo movie isn't going to include Loki who's being saved for his own origin movie." This doesn't make sense at all. Let's just hope that whoever they get surround Dwayne Johnson is the Black Adam movie can carry that picture because it sounds like it could turn into another Scorpion King.

@HAILHYDRA - Black Adam only in recent history became a mainstay in Captain Marvel lore. He's not even that much of a villain. Dr Sivana is his true nemesis if you were to give him one.
