Before he helmed Shazam! for Warner Bros., David F. Sandberg was known for creepy horror fare such as Lights Out and Annabelle: Creation, and the director has now returned to his roots with an atmospheric new short, Shadowed.
Sandberg actually wrote, shot and edited the film during self-isolation. With Hollywood all-but closed down for the foreseeable future, it's refreshing to see filmmakers getting creative with the materials and environment available to them like this and yielding such impressive results.
Described as a “sort of a companion piece to Lights Out,” Shadowed is only about 3 minutes long, but it manages to wring the maximum amount of tension out of every single second. Take Sandberg's advice and “watch loud in the dark!”
Sandberg recently revealed that while production on the Shazam! sequel was originally scheduled for later this year, the ongoing coronavitus situation might well force a delay.
We'll just have to hope that doesn't happen, but even if it's unavoidable, we'll be happy enough if he continues to bring us content like this while we wait!
