SHAZAM!: Get Your First Official Look At Asher Angel As Billy Batson In This Latest Image

Yet another official still from David Sandberg's Shazam! has been released online, and this one gives us our first glimpse of Asher Angel as young Billy Batson, hanging out with his pal Freddy Freeman...

We've seen a couple of official (and a lot of unofficial) photos of Zachary Levi as The Big Red Cheese, but this latest image from the Shazam! movie gives us a look at the hero's teenage alter-ego, Billy Batson (Asher Angel).

The still features Batson hanging out with his best friend Freddy (Jack Dylan Grazer), but what's visible in the background of the pic may turn out to be of greater interest!

The Superman and Batman memorabilia may lead you to conclude that Shazam! exists outside of regular DCEU continuity, but to the right of Billy we can see a Daily Planet newspaper clipping with the headline "Superman is Back," which obviously suggests that this film takes place in the same universe as Justice League.

Head on over to EW to hear from the DC movie's young stars, and be sure to keep an eye on CBM for more Shazam! goodies as we head towards San Diego Comic-Con this weekend.

@Spock0Clock - Yeah i could see 15 to 19 being acceptable. As long as he gets the shazam family to back it up.

Let's be completely honest here: how many sequels could they legitimately get out of this franchise?

Imagine that it's a great movie and two years later we get a 17 year old Billy.
Then a 19 year old Billy.

What I'm saying is: does Captain Marvel work when it's not about a kid becoming an adult? I've not read a whole lot of this corner of DC, so I'm sure there were Elseworlds and such with Billy as an adult (Kingdom Come was, I think), but does this premise have any potential to work on screen in any kind of long term? Or does it maybe become a mantle-passing or a recasting thing?

@AngryCipher - Get down here.

But what about 28? Could we see Angel sticking around long term like RDJ has in the MCU? Peter Parker was allowed to grow up (sort of), but it seems like Billy doesn't really make mainstream sense after 20.

@Spock0Clock - What the hell i am i doing up there?

Depends. I mean if you can find an actor who can pull off the younger look, nobody will tell the difference.

How i imagine that conversation is going,

Kid with bag: Here's your acid Billy, remember start with one hit and go from there.

Billy: Sweet, bitches love acid.

@TheBeard - Here's an alternate conversation:

Kid with bag: Here ya go, Billy. Roofie Colada mix. Straight from Gusto's Subterranean Love Palace and Petting Zoo.

Billy: Sweet, Uncle Billy's gonna get LAID!!!!

@Tron5000 - You don't have the history here to understand the context.

But, thanks for playing. Johnny, tell him what he's won...

The DCEU. A universe where kids like Billy buy toys based on a homicidal maniac who brands criminals.

@Nightwing1015 - as opposed to our world where kids like you and I buy toys based on homicidal maniacs who do the same or worse?

Would you care to comment? 🎤 🎥????

@IronGenesis - Such as which toys? If they were based on real murderers then I doubt most toy stores would stock or allow them.

@Nightwing1015 - Right! The Superman stuff I get. Many would love him but Batman is a mass murderer in this U (although, I personally think Batman's DCCU suit to be easily the best comic outfit ever translated to screen). Can't wait to see this but Black Adam should have been in his first movie

@AngryCipher - no but in America’s history killers and criminals like Jesse James, Billy the Kid, Bonnie and Clyde were turned into folk heroes with their own comics/books.

Today we still make films and celebrate villains.

@Nightwing1015 - It's called a story arc.
In BvS Batman was a vigilante (not a superhero) who was suffering from PTSD, lost hope and became the thing he fought against.
Superman was the first Super-hero and created the concept for Batman and Wonder Woman to embrace, as well as the others they brought together in the Justice League.
Batman has changed and been redeemed. He is now a Super-hero as well, adopting the model that Superman inspired him with.
