With
Shazam! flying into theaters this Friday, WaterTower Music has announced the first details for the film's original soundtrack, including its own release and the full tracklist.
Shazam! (Original Motion Picture Soundtrack) will become available for streaming and for purchase digitally coincidentally with the movie's theatrical release on April 5. If you're like me and enjoy the old school feeling of popping a disc into your car stereo, it'll be available on physical CD on May 10.
The 29-track
Shazam! album features original score by Golden Globe-, BAFTA-,GRAMMY- and Emmy Award-nominated composer Benjamin Wallfisch.
Shazam! director David F. Sandberg also worked with Wallfisch on
Annabelle: Creation.
"It’s always such an incredible joy collaborating with David,” said Wallfisch.
“Not only is he a visionary filmmaker, he’s also a great musician. We both have a shared love of the classic superhero, fantasy and adventure scores of the 80s, and we started the SHAZAM! score by trying to channel the feeling of wonder and hope that incredible music gives you. It felt like being a kid again; I grew up in the 80s in total awe of, and in love with that music.”
Beyond his work with Sandberg, Wallfisch boasts quite the impressive resume. He's collaborated regularly with Academy Award-winning composer Hans Zimmer, including work on Denis Villeneuve's critically acclaimed
Blade Runner 2049 and Academy Award Best Picture nominee
Hidden Figures. He also composed the music for Andy Muscietti's
IT.
WaterTower Music has already
made available three of the songs from the album, including the hero's inspiring theme song. The remaining tracks will become available for streaming and for purchase digitally on April 5.
