SHAZAM! Star Zachary Levi Marks The Movie's One-Year Anniversary With A Cool New Photo Of The DC Superhero

Believe it or not, it's been a year since Shazam! arrived in theaters (how times have changed, eh?), and star Zachary Levi has marked that with a new photo and his hopes for the upcoming sequel...

On April 5th, 2019, Shazam! arrived in theaters, and earned a 90% Rotten Tomatoes score and a solid $364.6 million at the worldwide box office. Now, star Zachary Levi has taken to Instagram to mark the occasion, while also sharing his hopes to reprise the role in the upcoming sequel.

That's been dated for April 1st, 2022, but director David F. Sandberg recently admitted that there's a chance it could be hit by a slight delay due to the COVID-19 pandemic (shooting was expected to start later this year, around the same time cameras start rolling on the Black Adam movie).

The hope is that both DC Comics characters will cross paths on the big screen in the not too distant future, and that's obviously an exciting prospect for fans of the source material given their history.

With Levi's message comes a never before seen promo shot of Shazam, and while some fans found fault with his "inflated" appearance, there's no denying the actor was born to play this hero.

Not a fan of that Shazam movie, Aquaman and Wonder Woman are better movies. Thinking about it, I think I enjoyed the other DCECU movies more.

This film is so good. Wish it got more attention when it came out, but being sandwiched between two Marvel juggernauts sure didn't help. Easily one of the strongest DC films.

Man I have always been a fan of Shazam. I was first introduced to the character when I watched that crazy Saturday morning show when I was little. I then began reading his comic book and found real quickly that the show and comic book depicted him a little different. However Geoff John’s series updated him, but it also kept that fun childlike character that Shazam is known for. I thought the movie was spot on to the John’s comic book run. Levi played a great a great Big Red Cheese. The budget was not as big as I had hoped, but maybe they will now on the sequel.

Really liked Shazam. Such a fun, heartwarming movie, with likeable characters! The problem in the future will be Dwayne Johnson. The dude has a big ego and will try to monopolize the franchise. I have a bad feeling about his casting. But let's hope for the best.

@LameLuka - Good point. Didn't it actually take place during Christmas? With that comic-relief mall santa character and all.
