SHAZAM Star Zachary Levi Responds To Leaked Costume Photo

Earlier this week, photos from the set of Shazam surfaced giving us our first look at Zachary Levi as the titular hero and Mark Strong's Doctor Sivana but when will his costume be officially unveiled?

A little while ago, Shazam director David F. Sandberg claimed that the moment set photos of the character surfaced online, an official version would be released. However, that's a decision which is way above the pay grade of the filmmaker and Warner Bros. has yet to unveil a shot of Zachary Levi suited up as the DC Comics hero. Now, the actor has weighed in on when exactly that might be released by the studio and it sounds like he might be just as much in the dark as the rest of us.

During a recent Q&A on Instagram, Levi was asked about that set photo leaking online and admitted that it wasn't the plan for it to pop up the way it did and that he's hopeful an official version is coming.

"How did everyone like that Shazam pic that was online yesterday? Kinda crazy, right?" he asked. "That wasn’t planned, that was completely unplanned. Hopefully, we’ll be able to have a better pic at some point out there for people to see."

Could it be that Warner Bros. was responsible for that photo and leaked it themselves in order to get fans talking about the movie? We'll never know.

We'll have to hope that Warner Bros. does decide to officially unveil Shazam in the near future because the response to the costume has been mixed, mostly because it looks like plain old spandex!

Only a moron would actually believe this.

@blackandyellow - If I remember correctly, that's what Snyder did for Man of Steel. They released those "paparazzi" pics of shirtless Henry to show how buff he became for the role, etc...If I remember correctly.

Best wait until that studio interference kicks in before they go public on anything solid.

I hope Levi appreciates all the hard work the design team put into the hood but it seems like he is expressing his issues with the rest of the crew.

I used to love Captain Marvel and Shazam as a kid. Given it's history, this property has always kind of felt outside of the main DC heroes anyways. I would like to see this one not in the DCEU. That shit is tainted.

@gulducati - Keep it away from Superman and Batman as long as possible.

@gulducati - I always felt like Shazam would have been better explored as a Marvel hero. In DC he was always been outshined by Superman, although I think he is much more interesting.

@Urubrodi - Yes, much more interesting. He's a bit more kid friendly superhero too, since he is a kid. DC/WB better not make him all dark and brooding! lol

@gulducati - Even in the New 52 take on the character, they deal with heavy themes (Billy is such a jerk because he sees no point in being good when everyone else isn't, then there's what New 52 Black Adam did to his nephew and dealing with being an orphan in today's world) but the story is largely light-hearted and optimistic. I hope the film is much the same way. Now that Clark Kent, a boy who wanted to use his abilities to help others and made the uphill climb to become Superman, and overcame absolute despair to become a beacon of hope. Now that, pretty much every hero, and the world at large, knows that there is hope, it's time to explore the world from a lighter perspective. It's time to be a little silly. This is the perfect film to do that with.

I cannot wait to see the front of the costume. Right now it looks great and is pretty faithful to what we have seen in the comics.

Of course I have to say WB has always done well in the costume department minus a few characters from SS.
