SHAZAM! FURY OF THE GODS Rumored To Feature An Appearance From Henry Cavill's Superman

There's been a lot of speculation that Superman could do a flyby in the upcoming Shazam! sequel, and a new rumor claims to have confirmed that Henry Cavill will make an appearance as the Man of Steel...

By MarkCassidy - Feb 04, 2021 04:02 PM EST

The first Shazam! movie featured a brief appearance from Superman (we only saw the character from the neck down in the final shot), and it sounds like The Man of Steel might return for a more substantial role in the upcoming sequel - this time with Henry Cavill in the cape.

According to That Hashtag Show, Cavill "is listed as a member of the cast" of Shazam! Fury of The Gods, though they don't provide many more details.

It was reported in June of last year that Cavill had made a new deal with Warner Bros. to return as Superman in the DCEU, but that was never officially confirmed (the actor downplayed it in subsequent interviews). At the time, we were told that there were no current plans for a direct sequel to Man of Steel, with Supes expected to make a series of smaller appearances in other characters' movies.

So, a role in Fury of The Gods would certainly make sense, and since the source has had quite a few scoops pan out in the past, this is well worth keeping an eye on.

Plot details for Shazam! 2 are still under wraps, but we do know that the sequel will feature more of the Shazam Family, and is expected to introduce some "unexpected villains." Zachary Levi will return as the title character, with David Sandberg back in the director's chair.

Shazam! Fury of The Gods is currently scheduled for release in 2023.

Shazam was a great kids movie also its biggest problem. Its why I could only watch this movie once. No plans on a second viewing.

@DoubleD - I liked it a lot more when I watch it a second time recently. I still feel like there's a disconnect between Billy and Shazam they dont really mesh for me as the same kid but I still enjoyed it a lot.

@DoubleD - yes, and that board room scene is especially made for kids.

@DoubleD - by the way, its a superhero movie. all superhero movies are kids movie. just some are for big kids. plus its more mature in the issues it deals with than most of the mcu films.

@aresww3 - Zack Snyder movies are for adults. What are you new around here?

@MyCoolYoung - they are made for edge lord teenagers. (I don't mean that as an insult)_ arguably nolan's batman movies are made for adults, but seriously its a genre about people with superpowers punching badguys. its by its very nature childish.

the most adult comic movie i've seen is maybe joker.

@MyCoolYoung - And there's nothing wrong with it being for kids. Its why I like it. Why I like cartoons, Disney movies and Fantasy. And why I can watch cartoons with my nephew and niece at Christmas, while their mom and dad wonder how I can watch that crap with them and enjoy. I'm a big kid and I'm happy about that. It makes me creative and youthful.

That doesn't mean I don't think some of the best comic movies are the ones like Dredd and Batman Begins that take themselves seriously. However, at the same time, I don't crucify a movie in the comic book genre for aiming towards kids. Spiderman, Enter The Spiderverse and Shazam are fun movies, that are aimed toward kids but adults can enjoy as well, because it transports them back to their childhood and some of the innocent joy of the genre.

@aresww3 - I was just kidding I don't think Snyder movies are for adults lol I think people think that when someone says it's for kids they think it's not to be taken seriously and it's not fair. Ratings don't dictate quality

Actually do it this time. I enjoyed his inclusion in Shazam but the lack of face while fine was less than ideal. Also its now going to bug me watching this movie that he doesnt have the black suit. I know the universe has largely move don from its connections to the Snyderverse but this one felt a little more entrenched in that continuity although clearly departed from it tonally. Im gonna do a full watch through leading up to and continuing after ZSJL and I just know that little continuity blip is gonna bug me now lol

@Ha1frican - I think he was always meant to go back to the blue and red after everything was over.

@OmegaBlack13 - I believe Snyder said that wouldnt have happened for a few movies as the red and blue would signify him truly coming into his own as Superman which I think was supposed to be in JL but who knows bc he has the red and blue in the Knightmare timeline so who knows when it would have come back. Id be cool with the black sticking around for maybe one more movie but returning the the classic color scheme definitely should have been coming fairly soon as far as i'm concerned
