Late A Nightmare on Elm Street, The Last House on the Left and Scream director Wes Craven was responsible for some of the most iconic movies, characters and moments in horror cinema, but he was also behind his share of duds, and one of 'em is getting a remake.

Craven didn't actually direct 2006's The Breed, but he was a producer on the film, and recruited his A New Nightmare assistant director Nick Mastandrea to helm.

The movie focuses on two brothers and their friends who travel to an island cabin they inherited from their recently deceased uncle for a relaxing weekend getaway. The group is then besieged by genetically enhanced dogs bred to kill via an abandoned training facility on the Island.

The Breed was not well-received (to say the least), earning a 27% score from critics on Rotten Tomatoes. Now, Variety reports that brothers Nathan and Griff Furst are set to direct a remake, with Fall and Shazam! Fury of the Gods actress Grace Caroline Currey in the lead role.

The project is described as an “unconventional reimagining of the Wes Craven cult classic,” centring around Currey’s character Violet, “a rebel icon and badass on a mission to search for abandoned dogs on a remote island which leads to complete adrenaline-fuelled terror.”

The Fursts will also produce together through their company, Curmudgeon Films. The movie will be co-produced and financed by Daro Film Distribution, which also represents the international rights to the film.

Currey recently played the lead in Lionsgate’s adventure thriller, Fall, directed by Scott Mann, which follows two daredevil climbers, Becky (Currey) and Hunter (Virginia Gardner), who decide to scale the B67 TV tower - and get stuck right at the top. She also played Mary Marvel/Mary Bromfield in superhero sequel Shazam! Fury of the Gods, but is unlikely to reprise the role after the advent of the new DCU.

"Brothers John (Oliver Hudson) and Matt (Eric Lively) have inherited an island cabin from their recently deceased uncle. Along with Matt's girlfriend, Nicki (Michelle Rodriguez), and other mutual friends, the siblings travel to the cabin for a relaxing weekend getaway. But, not long after arriving, the group is besieged by ravenous dogs. They watch in horror as another vacationer, Luke (Nick Boraine), is eaten alive. Soon, they discover a training facility where the dogs have been bred to kill."
