Canceled SPIDER-MAN: LOTUS Fan Film Footage Shows Web-Slinging VFX That Are On Par With The MCU

Newly revealed footage from the scrapped Spider-Man: Lotus fan film has surfaced online, and it showcases some impressive visual effects with web-slinging some of you might argue is better than the MCU!

Most fan films try hard, but ultimately can't come close to matching what we see in Hollywood blockbusters. However, with it becoming easier than ever for aspiring filmmakers to pick up a camera and bring their vision to life, Spider-Man: Lotus looked like it could be something very special indeed.

Unfortunately, we soon found out that both director Gavin J. Konop and Peter Parker actor Warden Wayne had allegedly shared some vile racist opinions that did the rounds online in the form of leaked DMs. There were also accusations that Konop had treated storyboard and VFX artists badly, while he later seemed to show his true colours in a message about Jon Watts.

The Spider-Man: No Way Home helmer made a point of reaching out to Konop to congratulate him on how the fan film was coming together, and after feigning excitement publicly, a DM revealed that he thinks Watts' Marvel movies are "still f***ing GARB."

There are claims that Spider-Man: Lotus will still be released, but fans don't seem overly interested in seeing anything from these two at this point.

Despite that, there's no denying that this new VFX video shared by artist Max Aurnhammer is pretty damn spectacular. Bringing the web-slinger to life in a way that's every bit as impressive as the Sony Pictures and Marvel Studios movies, Spidey looks amazing as he swings through New York City in a way we haven't even seen in the MCU yet!

Considering the reported budget of this fan film was only $25,000, that's mighty impressive and a solid indication this might have been a fun watch.

Hopefully, this gets Aurnhammer noticed as it would be a shame for those who didn't do anything wrong to not have their work recognised in any way. Fingers crossed more footage like this is shared soon as we'd be curious to see what other impressive VFX Spider-Man: Lotus had in store for us.

Pointing out all of the controversy surrounding the director and star while still ultimately being hopeful that the film gets released?

That's beautiful, looks like an Alex Ross panel coming to life.

Actually BETTER than the MCU.

I don't think we've seen this kinda web-slingin

Watts was a mistake.

@Doomsday8888 - and I don't know why he became so incompetent compared to the team up movies. Dude stopped a car with his foot then took on both falcon and the winter soldier at once and was the one to beat giant man, yet the idiot brigade gave him the slip in a white van.

@Doomsday8888 - Three movies, not a single decent web-slingin sequence.

@Doomsday8888 -
Agreed, but mostly because the MCU has barely included web-slinging and when they do its short and often for comedic purposes or barely focused on.

That's pretty impressive. I'd say get this man a job at Marvel, but by saying that I realize I don't wanna wish him mental breakdowns, crunch and underpaid work either

Web swinging was almost non-existent in MCU so yeah hopefully we see something like this in the future. Both final swings in MCU are terribly shot. Watts doesn't know how to actually film Spider-Man with quick movements.

I thought the title was a big exaggeration, but that was truly beautiful. Why didn't we get animation like this in the MCU?

Looks more like a video game than a movie. But it does look fantastic. And the music choice is 10/10

@TheManWithoutFear - in fairness, movies nowadays are looking more like video games than actual modern video games.

The 90's theme blasting at the end gave me mad chills. And the frenetic swinging was really good. As if an actual person was swinging around NYC with string lol

One moment they thought their fan film was going to lead to Hollywood careers, fame and fortune. A moment later, they realized their dreams were [frick]ed and a "career" at McDonalds awaits.

Damn now that's some good web swinging right there!

Those are some amazing cloth simulations! I'd like to see the finished film, despite the directors opinions.
Punish them, not their art.

PS: glad the comments are back

I thought this was going to be exaggerated but good god that was simply, no pun intended, amazing. And when it went to slow mo and the 90’s theme kicked in (that I grew up with) the biggest smile rolled across my face. Goddamn why did they have to mess this up. Such a shame.

The way this collapsed was so bizarre. Like the initial leak of racist texts was from someone the director crossed at the age of 9 for whom this was the conclusion of his multi year revenge plan. And then it turned out both the Green Goblin and Spider-Man actors also had racist texts basically taking out the entire main cast of the movie. And it came out that they were underpaying, overworking, and stiffing the VFX team that created this very amazing special effects sequence. This whole thing was a house of cards built on ambition and hubris that looking back now, with everything going on behind the scenes, was absolutely unattainable from the beginning. Honestly, I want to see the movie about the making of this movie
