As with any Marvel Studios movie, there were a lot of rumours about
Spider-Man: Far From Home before it was released. Well, when I recently sat down to talk to director Jon Watts, I had to ask about some of them and, as you might expect, most of what we heard was inaccurate - which just goes to show how good Marvel Studios is at keeping secrets.
London plays a key role in the
Spider-Man: Homecoming sequel and following that mention of "Braddock" in
Avengers: Endgame, there was a lot of speculation that Captain Britain could make his big screen debut. Unfortunately, it sounds like they simply couldn't find a way to make that work.
"We talked about ways...if we could have come up with a clever way of incorporating Captain Britain, I think we would have," he explains.
"There was never really anything that stood out that didn't seem like a shoehorned in reference." That's a shame, especially as the wall-crawler has a history with the hero in the comics (they were roommates).
I later asked Watts about the "leaked" audition tapes which popped up online pointing to the MCU's version of Gwen Stacy being from overseas, but the director confirmed that not only was she never set to make an appearance, but he has
"no idea what those are."
Finally, I had to find out more about those rumblings of a a possible appearance from Norman Osborn and the Sinister Six. Unfortunately, it doesn't appear as if there are any plans for the villainous team in the MCU...yet.
"We never talked about that for this film. It's just a question of what is the best idea for the story we are telling. Hopefully, the best idea always wins but what's exciting about working with Marvel is that you feel like every idea is always on the table."
