Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse gave Sony Pictures the opportunity to put the focus on a huge number of alternate reality web-slingers, and we're anticipating a similar number of surprises in next year's Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse. Thanks to some newly surfaced merchandise, though, we know that Spider-Punk will be among them.

His involvement has previously been rumoured, but it's now confirmed that Hobart Brown will be part of the sequel thanks to various toys that have found their way into stores.

It's unclear who will voice the character, though we'd like to think Sony would enlist a legit punk rockstar to bring him to life on screen. The character's design was originally going to be used for Spider-UK, but plans changed, and Dan Slott and Olivier Coipel's creation has since become a firm fan favourite.

In the comic books, Hobart was bitten by a spider that had stumbled into radioactive waste dumped by President Norman Osborn. This Spider-Man would become a symbol of anarchy on his world and led a Spider-Army to fight back against the villain's oppressive regime.

Cody Ziglar and Justin Mason launched a new Spider-Punk series earlier this year, so now feels like the perfect time to put the spotlight on this unique Spider-Verse hero.

Needless to say, the mind boggles at the sort of visuals we could see in this movie. Spider-Punk swings into action with a guitar in hand, and we're sure Sony's animators will have fun doing something really unique with this wall-crawler as he no doubt helps Miles Morales and Spider-Gwen take the fight to The Spot.

In the movie, Miles returns for the next chapter of the Oscar-winning Spider-Verse saga for an epic adventure that will transport Brooklyn’s full-time, friendly neighbourhood Spider-Man across the Multiverse to join forces with Gwen Stacy and a new team of Spider-People to face off with a villain more powerful than anything they have ever encountered.

Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse is currently set to be released in theaters on June 2, 2023.

So was Japanese Spider-Man also confirmed, or was that just a rumour? Because if it's the former, them this movie really has the greatest line-up of Spider-characters. Only Spider-UK would be missing then

Niiice. I could see him hitting on Gwen, especially since they're both into rock music and playing instruments.

spider-punk's design is already so baller, can't imagine how well it'll translate to the beautiful art style of these films

Can't wait to see one my favorite Spider-variants onscreen! I remember someone on here saying saying that it would be a fun idea if there was a love triangle between Miles, Gwen & Hobie Brown (Spider-Punk) as Hobie and Gwen have similar tastes in music and are the same age and is also usually portrayed as pretty confident compared to Miles Morales (especially the animated version).

With the possible exception of The Batman 2, this is my most anticipated comic book movie sequel. Into the Spider-Verse is my favorite Spider-Man movie, possibly my favorite Marvel movie and one of my favorite comic book movies period. I love it.

@Batman91 - I enjoyed it but thought it was a visual mess and hated the animation style. The frame-skip animation style is something my brain never actually stops seeing so it takes away from my enjoyment immensely.

@Deklipz - I think it looks weird for the first twenty minutes or so every time I watch it, but then my eyes get used to it. They never got used to whatever they did in the Hobbit movies, at least not in the theater.

@Batman91 - I wish I could adjust to it, as I generally like the stories I've seen using it. I just can't not see it. My brain doesn't like glossing over things like that, my filter is broke.

As for The Hobbit movies, they were shot and displayed at a MUCH higher framerate than normal that actually took away from the movies because it made them look more like stage performances with VFX. It highlighted the prosthetics and makeup and cut a definite line between any CGI and tangible 'thing' that's normally overlooked because of the 'movie feel' at the standard framerate. Jackson just got caught up in the tech of it all and forgot about the end experience.

I didn't know until recently that existed this alternate Spidey.

Hopefully they do him right and is more than just a cameo. I still think he could use that guitar and maybe his web to make sound waves.
