While the inclusion of Robert Downey Jr.'s Tony Stark in Spider-Man: Homecoming was massive news, fans were even more surprised to learn that Jon Favreau would be returning as Stark's bodyguard and friend, Happy Hogan, who we last saw in 2013's Iron Man 3.

In an interview with Yahoo, Favreau described his acting return to the Marvel Cinematic Universe as  “a lot of fun. It allows me to maintain the relationship with the MCU, but also to do other things that are interesting that are outside of that genre and that set of characters...Especially when the filmmakers are taking care of you, and taking care of the characters and the story. If you’re in good hands, it’s great to come in and play in somebody else’s world. That’s how I started, as an actor. I really enjoy being on other people’s sets, especially if I have cool things to do. It’s all the fun and much less of the responsibility.”

As far as remaining a part of the MCU as a whole, Favreau says he hasn't lost touch with his connections to the creative team, opting to remain behind-the-scenes for the time being, after directing Iron Man and Iron Man 2“Well, as far as directing goes, I had done two back-to-back, and that required a tremendous amount of concentration on one subject,” Favreau said. “Fortunately, I didn’t lose connection with it; I just wasn’t directing there. I still was executive-producing Avengers and Avengers: Age of Ultron and Iron Man 3, and I appeared in Iron Man 3. So I maintained the relationship as part of the family.”

Many have expressed their wishes for Favreau to return to directorial duties for a fourth Iron Man film, and by keeping such a good bond with the Marvel family, the possibilty is never truly off the table! Are you excited for Favreau's reappearance in the MCU? Sound off below!

if they bring on iron man 4, it's gotta be with him directing. Give us the true mandarin, and titanium man please...?

@GinjaNinja - They probably won't return to the Mandarin. The one-shot kept the mystery alive to satisfy the fans let down by IM3's reveal, but Marvel has otherwise shown little interest in exploring the character.

@KingNomarch - I regretted watching the last Jessica Jones trailer, since it showed A LOT, including Trish pulling the trigger, but her gun wasn't loaded. Someone give me a hint at how much now material there is here before I watch it.

@Spock0Clock - There's quite a few new scenes but none that I thought were spoilery.

@KingNomarch - I think I"m going to love this. It Looks like story is going to be about the villains trying to figure out a way to take Luke Cage Down or at least even the odds in order to maintain their empire.

If you’re in good hands, it’s great to come in and play in somebody else’s world.

I feel like this sentiment is the key to keeping that first generation of Avengers to re-up their contracts. Yes, money, too, but if Chris Evans can go off for two years to do some other stuff, then come back to a character he knows people love, that he enjoys playing, and that he's reasonably certain will be written well, then he's likely to do it.

Downey has already signed on to two extra movies and (even though he seemed to be getting restless a couple of years ago), he seems more into it now than ever before. Of course, he gets to live in "Camp Robert", so he's a special case.

IM2's failings were certainly not Favreau's (Marvel Studios and the writers are to blame), but as the most visible part of the production team, unfortunately he had to be demoted to placate ignorant moviegoers.

Its funny to see how many people that had their gripes about Marvel before are glad and willing to come back after Ike Perlmutter and his cronies got booted out of the flims division.

@SageMode - Now if only they could be booted entirely.

@MattBellissimo - Yeah. I don't have a problem with Squirrel Girl, Cloak and Dagger, or the New Warriors, but it's so clear that those shows are getting developed purely as a moneygrab to bank on the Marvel logo. That may not be Perlmutter personally doing that, but it's his ilk.
