Sony Pictures' Kraven The Hunter movie has added some A-list talent in the form of Academy Award-winner Russell Crowe, who will join Aaron Taylor-Johnson (Avengers: Age of Ultron, Kick-Ass) as the titular anti-hero.

THR reports that the Man of Steel actor has signed on for a role in the Spider-Man spinoff, but no details on his character were provided. The trade does mention that "many of the main characters are said to be Kraven’s family members," which could suggest that Crowe will play Sergei Kravinoff's father.

There is also a chance he's been cast as Kraven's half-brother, The Chameleon, as the villain has been heavily rumored to be introduced as the main antagonist. Jodie Turner-Smith (Without Remorse, Queen and Slim) was also said to be in line to play Calypso, but that's yet to be confirmed.

J.C. Chandor (Triple Frontier; A Most Violent Year) will direct Kraven from a screenplay from Art Marcum, Matt Holloway (Iron Man; Uncharted) and Richard Wenk (The Equalizer; Jack Reacher: Never Go Back). The movie is currently scheduled for a theatrical release on January 13, 2023.

In addition to playing Superman's father Jor-El in Zack Snyder's Man of Steel, Crowe has another SPUMC-adjacent role lined up, as he's set to appear as Zeus in Taika Waititi’s Thor: Love and Thunder this July.
