KRAVEN THE HUNTER Star Aaron Taylor-Johnson Breaks Silence On Marvel Role And Teases An Origin Story

Kraven the Hunter star Aaron Taylor-Johnson has finally broken his silence on playing one of Spider-Man's most iconic foes, seemingly suggesting the movie is going to delve into Kraven's origin story...

Aaron Taylor-Johnson played the title character in Kick-Ass and later starred as Avengers: Age of Ultron's Quicksilver in a one-off appearance in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Despite moving away from blockbuster fare in recent years, it's fair to say the actor is no stranger to superhero movies, and he'll next take on the lead role in Sony Pictures' Kraven the Hunter

Kraven, a character considered one of Spider-Man's greatest foes, is an unexpected choice to get his own spinoff, and it sounds like we can expect this movie to explore his origin story.

"It’s like you’re coming at it from the physical aspect, because that’s what you can see from a comic book," Taylor-Johnson said of how he's preparing to play Kraven. "You go, 'Oh, he looks like that, so I have to look like that.' You see that and then you start to backtrack and dig deeper, and go, 'This is where he originates from, then he has this relationship and that relationship…' You just hope that you’re going to portray something that you can bring to life."

There is, again, room for an interpretation and you want to be able to bring something and let it pop off the page. It’s another new challenge, we talk about putting yourself under pressure all the time," the actor continued. "I don’t step away from controversial shit, I don’t know what it is, but I’m always drawn to the thing that might actually give me a f****** stroke!"

Kraven does have a pretty interesting history in the Marvel Universe, so expanding on that by delving into his family's dynamic and possibly even his fascination with big game hunting could lead this story to some exciting places. Of course, most fans will be far more invested in seeing the villain clash with Spider-Man, but only time will tell whether that's the ultimate plan for the character.

Taylor-Johnson concluded by sharing an update on how work is progressing on Kraven the Hunter, saying: "I’m good! I’m in England, I’m not in London but just outside, close to the production office [for Kraven the Hunter]. I’m staying here because I’ve got a bunch of stunt training to do for this movie, so the director and I are bunking up for the next couple of weeks."

Kraven the Hunter is set to be released in theaters on January 13, 2023.

Still don’t like the idea of these movies. They are basically turning spideys rogue galllery into anti heroes even if they arent

@MeAreLegend - very reminiscent of the Dark Universe attempt

@MeAreLegend - but to be fair, Venom, Morbius and Kraven all have had arcs as anti heroes seeking redemption, so its not exactly completely against character, but its obviously not our preference.

On one hand, I'm happy we're finally getting kraven in live action. On the other hand, I'm still not convinced about this approach sony's taking of making movies about the villains. A third amazing spider-man movie adapting kraven's last hunt would have been way better.

Lol "let's talk nonsense to cover up for the fact that we're making a movie that has no reason to be done"

Because there has been no liveaction Spider-Man Kraven to just suddenly think the general audience will understand wtf their watching.

Probably not the best time to do marketing for a movie about a Russian aristocracy who got bored of hunting animals and upgraded to hunting people for sport.

The new Gen won’t know it’s, a, RIPOFFFF!!! Hahaha it sells, itself, oh I can’t, I can’t stop laughing, a a a anyway, we get Andy Serkis to film it, and best part, he can do all the mocap, and Aaron Rodgers or whatever this kids name is, all he has to do is the voice, doesn’t even have to leave the house, we can do it all on Zoom, what do you say Amy?

Eh I can't get excited about these "let's make Spidey's rogues into heroes" movies, but somebody likes them so I'll stfu.

Sony is taking a rinse-and-repeat approach with their Spider-Man characters...

Make the villains anti-hero's, have them face-off against villains with the same powers and throw in b.s. mentions to the MCU to grab the attention of the larger fanbase.

Venom I was able to let coexist on its own but Kravn does not need his own movies outside of the MCU. At some point, these guys need to face off against Spider-Man as the villains.

ATJ is playing Kraven?? I must have missed that day on CBM. Literally did not know that haha.

Kraven is probably one of my least favourite Spidey villains even when Spidey is actually showing up.
