A new batch of photos from the set of Madame Web have swung online, and they show Dakota Johnson and Adam Scott racing into action together...but not necessarily as you might expect. Check them out...

It's been clear from the start that Sony Pictures isn't exactly adhering to the comic books with Madame Web, but the plot has thickened with another round of photos from the movie's set.

As you can see below, Dakota Johnson's character has been seen racing into action alongside Adam Scott...dressed as paramedics. There's been speculation online that Scott might be playing a Peter Parker Variant, but it's safe to say these photos debunk the theory.

As for Johnson, neither the Cassandra Webb nor Julia Carpenter versions of Madame Web have ever had that job. The more we see from this movie, though, the clearer it becomes that its writers (who also penned Morbius) are putting a completely different spin on the psychic hero who has never really been much more than a minor Spider-Man supporting character.

As a result, we're not expecting much from Madame Web, but these photos are intriguing.

Sony Pictures continues to reinvent its Marvel characters, and while Aaron Taylor-Johnson recently attempted to back peddle on his recent Kraven the Hunter comments, it's clear that his take on the villain won't be too villainous. Still, there's room to reinterpret Madame Web's story given her relatively small role in the Marvel Universe, but whether that will work remains to be seen.

However, with what appears to be an early 2000s setting, it might be fun if Madame Web is tasked with protecting Mary Parker (Emma Roberts' pregnant character), only to fail, robbing this world of Spider-Man in the process. That's just a theory, though, and we don't actually know how important this movie will be to Sony's wider Marvel Universe.

S.J. Clarkson (The Defenders) is directing Madame Web from a screenplay by Morbius scribes Matt Sazama and Burk Sharpless. The movie is currently expected to swing into theaters on July 7, 2023.

Just like all the other big names in this movie, Adam Scott is probably just a regular colleague and/or friend in this movie. Still, I think he would be cast well as an older Peter Parker

Seriously? An article about how he “doesn’t expect much”, but rambles on about his own fan-fiction theory… then what’s even better is he felt he had to tell us “that’s just a theory though”. 😒 This Josh guy is something else

So Sony knows that Morbius and Venom have been ridiculed for lack of quality. So they hire the Morbius screenwriters for this. And the director of Defenders, which squandered four series worth of buildup only to pay it off with a truly shit crossover.

What the [frick] are these people thinking?!

@connorblaze - they really aren't thinking, they're literally throwing whatever at the wall and hoping it sticks without thinking of the consequences. They just see Marvel and think they're doing do well without thinking about what put them there

@Jefferys - Sony has a serious case of "producer's cousin" syndrome. As in hire this producer's cousin in some capacity or the film doesn't get made. That's why you see executives either fail upwards or are hired from completely opposite genres. The writer of Venom 2, Kelly Marcel, was the writer of the 50 Shades of Gray movie!?

Venom 2 and Morbius are what you get when you hire clout-chasers rather than folks that understand the comic genre. You get movies that feel more paint-by-numbers. This leads to weak deliveries from the actors because the script isn't dynamic enough to escape generic tropes. So it kind of tells you Sony is either open to bribes or does not truly comprehend how to maintain the quality of their superhero films.

Even Venom seems to kinda work without Spider-Man in this universe, but how and why would you do Madame Web without Spidey?

@SummersEssex - the only reason Venom worked at all is because everyone loves Tom Hardy.

There might be like three people outside of comic book readers that even actually know who either version of MadamWeb is. Any changes they make are going to go largely unnoticed to the masses.

It will probably suck but the key is, I don’t expect much from this movie, so there’s really little room for disappointment.

It's crazy to say, but I think this might end up being the worst SPUMC movie yet. Guess you can always rely on Sony to top themselves. (Worst themselves? Drop themselves?)
