Morbius is fast approaching, and with so much intrigue surrounding the Living Vampire's place in the Marvel Multiverse, this is a movie that should be well worth keeping an eye on. Recently, Variety spoke to star Jared Leto about playing the character and he was quick to praise the superhero genre.
"If it wasn’t for Marvel films, I don’t even know if theaters would exist," the actor acknowledged. "It doesn’t seem like there’s room for everyone, and that starts to become a little heartbreaking." While it's too soon to say whether Morbius will be a hit that contributes to saving the theatrical experience, the trade notes that Leto said he hopes to return as the anti-hero in potential sequels.
Asked if he's interested in sharing the screen with Spider-Man, Venom, and other Marvel characters, Leto simply responded, "That’s half the fun." Despite that, the Oscar-winner did admit he still has some catching up to do. "It’s been a busy time. I am going to watch [Venom: Let There Be Carnage]. I’ve been waiting to see it in a theater. The first one was a lot of fun, and Tom was fantastic. He built this role that looks like it was a blast to play."
Of course, Michael Morbius isn't Leto's first comic book movie part. He played The Joker in 2016's Suicide Squad, and later reprised the role in Zack Snyder's Justice League.
Asked if he'd be open to returning as the Clown Prince of Crime should Warner Bros. come calling, Leto was surprisingly receptive to the idea. He didn't say much, but teased fans by saying, "Never say never." It's hard to imagine it happening at this stage, but stranger things have happened!
Morbius is set to be released in theaters on April 1.
