Chris Miller Teases His And Phil Lord's SPIDER-MAN And STAR WARS Movies

The LEGO Movie co-director Chris Miller talks here about his and Phil Lord's plans for their upcoming Han Solo centric Star Wars Anthology movie and promise that their animated Spider-Man feature isn't going to be "just another Peter Parker origin story." Check it out!

Chris Miller and Phil Lord might just be the busiest men in Hollywood. They've been linked to everything from a Men in Black/Jump Street crossover to Ghostbusters and The Flash in recent months, and while their status is clearer with some of those projects than it is on others, we do know that they're writing an animated Spider-Man movie for Sony and that The LEGO Movie helmers will direct a Star Wars movie focusing on Han Solo. Talking to IGN, Miller was asked about what the duo will bring to a Galaxy Far, Far Away. "We always try and find something that's gonna make us... give a fire to our bellies and do a really good job. And this feels like there’s a lot of pressure to not screw this up. So we’ve definitely got that motivation and then the rest of it is about trying to give audiences a fresh experience that doesn’t feel like you're just trying to check off some checklist of beats that you’re expecting and make something that feels new and exciting for people, but at the same time honoring what was so great about that character."

As for what appeals to them about the character of Han Solo, he added: "I could talk to you for a day about why he is the perfect blend of rogue-ish cowboy... Morally ambiguous, but has a clear moral compass. He’s funny, he’s off the cuff… When I was a kid on the playground, fights were about who got to play Han Solo. He’s just one of the best characters ever created." Now, that Spider-Man movie is something of a mystery. It doesn't appear as if Marvel will have any sort of involvement with it and we don't know at this point if it's going to even focus on Peter Parker. Could fan-favourite Miles Morales be about to make his big screen debut? "I can’t really talk too much about that project. Much like the Han Solo, it is shrouded in secrecy, so I can’t really talk about it. But I will say, it is not just another Peter Parker origin story that you’ve seen 400 times. It is something totally unique and different and not like anything you’ve seen. That’s all I can say… and you’re going to love it!" What do you guys hope they'll focus on in this animated movie?

I really hope they go with hand-drawn animation, I know it's kind of unlikely in this day and age but still.

That cartoon Spider-Man movie is coming out in the murderer's row for CBMs in 2018.

July 6 - Black Panther
July 13 - Untitled X-Men movie
July 20 - cartoon Spider-Man
July 27 - Aquaman

It's a CBM gang bang.

Im actually interested if its a vontinuation of tasm. I didn't hate the 2nd movie, and they set up so much its disappointing there will be no payoff.

That awkward moment the animated Spider-Man movie has better writers and directors than the director and writers who are working on the MCU Spider-Man films.

Goddamnit Marvel.

Can't wait Sony is amazing company not [frick]ing morons like FOX

Jesus [frick]ing Christ the dick sucking in this comment is so [frick]ing hard.

Can't wait to see people defend it and attack me considering Sony is the reason Spider-Man 3 wasn't good, Spider-Man 4 never happen, TASM series failing, the Ghost Rider films failing, greenlighting every Adam Sandler film, rebooting Ghostbusters, the list goes [frick]ing on.

@KurtWagner1225

Doesn't matter. It would be impossible to [frick] up a script by Lord and Miller.

No doubt it will be the funniest Spider-Man script ever and better written then the guys who give us...

for a moment I thought I read that they were going to direct Spiderman in the MCU ...

Not all "Good" directors give great CBMs just remember that beofre Green Lantern Martin Campbell was considered a visionaire and a great franchise starter and we all know what happened.

The same can be said about Ang Lee who before Hulk had the amazingly epic Hidden dragon Crouching tiger (do not remember exactly the name) and we know how Hulk turned out too.

Heck, Singer was fresh from two succesfull x-men movies and usual suspects and he delivered Deadbeatman Returns that was awful.

My point is, the same way proven directors can create turds, also mediocre directors can create diamonds on cbms.

I hope the animated movie is a light-hearted, Incredibles-style romp. That would work so well for Spidey. *fingers crossed*

I agree [email protected] it really impossible for Marvel to hire them to write the 2017 movie?😐

After Hellboy 1 and 2 and Pan's Labyrinth we all thought Del toro's next movie would be on par or better than them, masterpieces and Pacific Rim was more meh than awesome so...

@KikinGonzalez

As a huge del Toro fan, Pacific Rim was nothing more than del Toro's love letter to Japanese Manga.

It was nothing but seeing giant monsters fight giant robots. Better than Godzilla which tried to sucker us in to this story involving Cranston only for him to die within the first half.

If you expected more than a film that's giant monsters fighting giant robots, then you're watching the wrong film.

@LEVITIKUZ

Sony made Spider-Man 2 which you always persist is the best Marvel film... There you go again being a hypocrite just like on IGN

You don't even know what a hypocrite is.

Just because you make one good film is an excuse for making 10 bad ones?

Well I guess Fox is excused for Fant4stic then because they gave us X2.

Just because a studio makes one good movie, doesn't mean you have to love them or doesn't mean they are a good company. That's not being a hypocrite.

So I guess we can excuse WB for Man of Steel, GL, Catwoman, Batman & Robin, and Superman 4 because they gave us The Dark Knight?

You need to learn to shut the [frick] up. Thing if what you say makes sense before you talk.

"Yeah it was impossible... Do you guys even know what these people are doing? They're developing Flash, Han Solo and directing whilst also the next Jump Street and this animated movie... They would've turned Marvel down............. WOW"

WOW ever hear of wishful thinking? Of course I know what the bloody hell they have on their slate"Mr I know everything" I don't recall asking for you opinion in the first place. So if you don't mind not talking to me, I'd greatly appreciate it.

"Some people will do anything to get attention"😂

Are we all gonna have to endure 2 more years of you trolling Marvels' Spider-Man? Just curious because your complaining is beyond repetitive at this point.
