Christoph Waltz Considered For the Lizard in Spider-Man Reboot?

According to 'The Playlist', Sony is considering Inglorious Basterds star Christoph Waltz for Marc Webb's 3D reboot of "Spider-Man. Check it Out!

With Andrew Garfield set to lead Sony's Spider-Man reboot, director Marc Webb has moved on to casting supporting characters. And according to Production Weekly via The Playlist, the studio is now considering the Inglorious Bastards star Christoph Waltz, for the villainous role of Curtis Connors, The Lizard.

The source says specifically, "Earlier this week we heard that Sony is interested in "Inglourious Basterds" star Christoph Waltz for the villain character in Marc Webb's 3D reboot of "Spider-Man." The same piece of information is now in this week's pages of Production Weekly: Sony interested in Waltz (presumably this is the Lizard if the rumors are correct).

If true, the 53 year old Austrian would sure bring much-needed star power to the reboot, recently winning an Oscar for best actor in a supporting role in Quentin Tarantino's Inglorious Basterds. And recently wrapping up on Michel Gondry's Green Hornet unsurprisingly as the film's villain, being in a superhero flick such as this wouldn't be anything too diverse from the actor's resume.

And as for the villain for Spidey's return, it's a pretty much guaranteed that Dr. Curtis Connors would be the usual medical doctor and researcher, but unlike Sam Raimi's trilogy, we may actually get to see when Connors' cure turns out to be worse than his disease; The Lizard.

Anyhow, Marc Webb will be directing the reboot, with filming expected to begin late this year. And the webslinger swings into theaters July 3, 2012 in the infamous 3D!

I think that the villain has to be Kraven because his accent is close enough to that of Kraven. My brother things Vulture, though. I want Scorpion, but I doubt they'd have him. Plus: I'd set up for Scorpion in one film with him as the P.I. and then have him as Scorpion in the next one. Not that they do what I want most of the time, anyway. lol

DCMarvelFreshman: He'd be freakin perfect as Baron Zemo.

It would be interesting to see him play someone that is inherently good.
I have always loved the Lizard, he's sort of like the Jekyll and Hyde of villains. Although it is a shame we never got to see him turn in the last Spider-Man films.

he'd be great for the role but i dont know if i'd want lizard to be the villain. sure if it was Spider-Man 4, but for the reboot they'd have to re-establish their relationship, unless the just figure people will go off the first 3 movies but i dont know..

lizard for a first movie is too soon. i wouldnt mind if it was spider-man 4 since the build up was already there. we need some time for doc conners to be the professor that peter always relate too. i'd say electro or any other villains which will lead to a sinister six in the future.

Great actor, his role in Inglorious Bastards was one of the best last year, I said he would win the Oscar when i walked out

But........Hes not right for this part really. If they wanted Lizard, why not just do Spider Man 4 with Dylan Baker as Lizard, it was set up for that, we all know it.

@MrAnonymous I agree I hate this reboot especially since they are focusing on his feelings more. I see Waltz playing a villian from Captain America more

Sony is being dumb by releasing this the same weekend as Star Trek 2, wish people could see my point.

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOO! The Lizard can't be the villian. Raimi wanted Lizard for Spider-Man 4 but Sony said no, and then made Sam choose the Vulture! How out of order it will be if true.

DudeOfSteel16 - 8/6/2010, 12:23 PM
I'm glad they are considering doing the Lizard because this guy would do a great job portraying him. I hope they consider other villains too because Spidey has one of the best rogues galleries of any superhero.

He'd make an awesome villain, but can he speak with an American accent!? I would like it to be true (although there are better villains they could go for than Lizard IMO) but I doubt it unforunately..! ;( Nice find either way DCMF!

All for it bring it on, and to all who say he needs to quit playing villains, lizard is the villain which would be cgi, conners is good.

My top antogonists would be:

1: Venom (do it right this time) maybe have scorpion be the main villan then he becomes venom at the end.
2: Hobgoblin
3: Scorpion

actually Sam Raimi wanted the Vulture

HELL YEAH TO CHRISTOPHER WALTZ AND THE LIZARD
sweetre15
sweetre15 - 8/6/2010, 2:14 PM
Simple answer to that "Why not make SM4 with Lizard?" question is because Raimi wanted Vulture and since I saw the script details it was going to make SM3 look like a masterpiece. Plus,Raimi's representation of the characters and source material was very mediocre anyway. Also, when they said that it was have a focus on the "teen angst" it obviously just meant that it would be more character driven and likely focus on his life in high school and him accepting the consequences of his actions which is not blasphemy at all involving the Spider-Man mythos. They never said that it would literally focus on his feelings thats like saying that Batman Begins was being sappy because it had more of a focus on the story and drama instead of the action.

Anyway,I'm glad we're getting a reboot.

Not bad choice, but i just dont see him as The Lizard! I would prefer Gary Oldman!
Deadshot
Deadshot - 8/6/2010, 2:20 PM
Where exactly did you see the "script details" and how do you even know if it was fake or not. And I know Raimi wanted the vulture but they didnt so he pulled out, but why can't sony just continue the original series without raimi and tobey?
sweetre15
sweetre15 - 8/6/2010, 2:23 PM
They were posted on Superhero Hype forums and someone on IMDB posted them as well but Movie News sites that said that they have "inside sources" also were saying the same things.
