EDITORIAL: Reasons Marc Webb should return for The Amazing Spider-Man 2.

I finally saw The Amazing Spider-Man yesterday (check out my review for it in my latest 2 in 1) and with Marc Webb having yet to make a decision, here is my reasons he should comeback for the Amazing sequel.

1: Romance

If there is one thing I feel Marc Webb has executed better than any other director for a comicbook film is the romance. He casted actors who had a real chemistry together and you believed that the characters are real. Imagine what he could do if they threw Mary Jane into the mix or Felicia Hardy.

2: Feel

The Amazing Spider-Man has a feel, that the best way I can describe it is that it feels natural and organic. It has a specific feel that if Marc Webb were to not comeback for TASM 2, it wouldn't really feel right and it would look weird if to watch it after TASM.

3: Pacing

He gave the film a perfect pacing and I think the sequel could benefit from the pacing he gave the first film, if not improve on it.

Villains

Norman Osborne

Lets just say for argument sake that the mystery figure in TASM is Norman Osborne. Marc Webb could have Norman be the main bad guy without really being the "bad guy". He could pull the strings, it could help with The Untold Story and pacing, speaking of pacing, here is my idea for who the sequels baddie should be.

If they do decide to not stray from the first movie, they could continue the cross species one more time and introduce Puma. Tweak his origin and it could be good or (even though the trilogy would only have one different villain in the whole trilogy to seperate itself from the previous trilogy) they could do The Death of Gwen Stacy as the basis of the second film, finish the untold story and also introduce the symbiote and have Peter get rid of it at the end of the film, attach itself to Eddie Brock and have it lead to the third and final film to be Spider-Man vs. Venom. Marc Webb is a great story teller and I think if they keep him for the whole trilogy and possibly go with my ideas, you could have one of the best trilogies ever and potentionally topping the original trilogy.

Personally I'm indifferent, after Iron Man, Batman Begins and First Class I felt those directors were a perfect fit to film. Similarly Joe Johnston was perfect for the period setting of Cap.

What Webb brought was a certain humanity to the characters for me that was more important than the romance. Peter and Gwen were good together but for me they come in third next to the will they won't they relationship from Iron Man and the bittersweet Captain America romance.

Webb had the right villain but used him wrong and while good elements were in place not much story telling was achieved, as to who is responsible for that I don't know but I feel a director should want to tell a specific story.

This was like The Incredible Hulk for me, I enjoyed it but couldn't be bothered if someone else took the reigns.

I think that Gwen shouldn't die until the third movie. Having her die in the second would probably lead to Mary Jane in the third and i don't want to see her until the 4th movie.

I do agree that Norman Osborn should be pulling the strings, but he shouldn't even be fully seen as Green Goblin until the third movie where he is the villain and kills off Gwen.

I think that the symbiote should be hinted at in the third movie as one of the things that Richard Parker and Curt Connors where working on. This could lead to a great Venom vs Spiderman movie and I would want it to spin off into a agent venom movie.

I would love it if Webb will return, I didn't care about Spidey too much until TAS, but now I'm hooked, great CBM, great director

I completely agree. The Amazing Spider-Man was fantastic, and the sequel won't be nearly as good unless it has good ole' Webb back in charge. Fleshing out characters just comes so natural to the guy!

@Sotojuice how is not logical if it is Norman? He is referenced plenty of times in the movie and we know hes there. So how exactly does it not make sense?

We keep going to the traditional rogues gallery for picks, but I'd love to see Spider-Man actually fight some real crime in a sequel. I wanna see the mob villains pop up; Silverman, Hammerhead, and the Enforcers. They would have ties to Oscorp, and we could see a few classic villains like Electro, Kraven, or the Chameleon work on their behalf. And behind the scenes is Norman Osborn, pulling the strings and becoming the Green Goblin.
