Spider-Man has arguably the best rogues gallery in comicbook history but.. certain villains are just meant and aren't meant to be on the big screen. I'll be mentioning the following that are meant to be and yes that includes previous and upcoming Spider-Man film villains.

Let's start off with my favorite... The Lizard!

Cinematically both visually and emotionally this character has so much potential. Here is my reasons why he is meant to be a big screen Spider-Man villain. 1: His backstory is great and his motivations are to be admired. A former army surgeon caught in a fire fight and his arm gets amputated in a fight and he becomes a biologist and is fascinated by how some reptiles can regrow missing limbs then tests it on a rabbit then himself but unfortunately it has side effects on him. 2: Now visually it's pretty clear why he would be great to see in a Spidey film but emotionally goes deeper. He is Spider-Man's greatest ally but one of his deadliest enemies, his relationship with his wife is Rocky because of his alter-ego and at one point in the comics The Lizard eats and kills Connors son. There is so much opportunity emotionally for this character and it's hard to ignore it.

Mysterio

He is meant to be because as I've stated in my article "Spider-Man villains that would make for a great movie." He more than likely would be better with another villain to compliment hin on screen but he would be a great villain mentally. Alot of villains you see in movies are challenging physically but Mysterio would make for a great mental villain if done right.

Fan Favorite... Venom!

Now everyone has made it clear and it was obvious that Venom was misused in Spider-Man 3 all though I think they portrayed the Eddie Brock character. Anyways he is meant to be because of the challenge he creates for Spider-Man and he is like Lizard he is visually something to see on the big screen.

Carnage

Can't have Venom without Carnage, am I not right? Carange is meant to be because Venom is the reason Carange even exsits but Carnage poses as a threat to both the wall crawler and Venom.

Green Goblin

We've seen him before in the original Spider-Man and the suit got mix to negative reactions. He deserved to be on the big screen for a reason, he is Spider-Man's arch-nemesis. He is tied with Venom, Carnage and Doc Ock as Spidey's greatest enemy. He is the mental threat as well as the physical threat that Spider-Man needs.

Speak of the devil.... Doc Ock

Well I'll be honest I don't know why I listed Doc Ock when he was brought to perfection in Spider-Man 2.

What are your thoughts? Leave comments and be respectful

i agree with venom & carnage.

green goblin could do with some improving over what we saw in spider-man,doc ock was pretty much perfect in spider-man 2.

would love to see the likes of tombstone, kraven the hunter & the sinister six all have big screen outings.

Here's the problem with Venom and Carnage - the fans anticipate both characters. Carnage is pure mayhem, where Venom is just an adrenaline junkie who hates Spider-man. I think Carnage is a weak character, but I think Venom has a chance of returning to the silver screen sometime.

I want to see Mysterio - I've always had a soft spot for that guy.

Please, for the love of the English language, learn how to spell. Anyway, I always thought kraven would be interesting.

Ock's already been done perfectly. Green Goblin will probably end up being in the 3rd.
Anyways, I've always wanted to see Mysterio and the Chameleon. I want Venom done right, too. Maybe with the Ultimate storyline?

I thought Doc Ock anf Green Goblin were both done perfectly mainly because Willem Dafoe and Alfred Molina are great actors. Venom and Carnage are very hard characters to portray but nothing is impossible for filmmakers. Mysterio would be good if they actually tried kind of like on the Spider-Man 2 video game.

Hell with that ....i say next film ...Norman Osborne, Still behind the scenes hires 2 Assassins to take out Spidey.....a tweak of Kraven being a hunter but more a hired killer that hunts for sport as well as takes out humans the way he hunts...in a sick and realistic way ....as well as a separate assassin Shocker.....both competing to take out Spidey for some $$$ and [frick]ing shit up along the way

this whole damn film is soooo tweaked from Original Spidey ...i say why not mix up things.....eventually we may get a 3rd reboot ...way down the line that stays true to Spidey.....for now....i will settle for this and probably still love it cause its Spider-man
But damn you BOLLYWOOD for messing with the Uncle Ben death angle to his origin...damn you to hell.....and don't get me started on TMNT either.....piss shittin thunder queefs

Well GhostRiderfan1....I don't expect you to understand...you are a Ghost Rider Fan...so enjoy those Nic Cage dung farts for movies they made for you. Great stuff huh? Bollywood baby !!!

But as for your comment of not understanding me....nobody has put it more simply and accurately as FriendlyNeighborHoodSpidey commenting to another non TRUE Spider-man fan to make him understand why [frick]ing with the impact, and reason to why Peter becomes Spider-man is so so wrong.

SEE BELOW
@RFBB I have been reading your comments, and it doesn't seem like you understand the character or the origin story of spider-man at all. First of all, his parents died when he was a baby, so this idea of him becoming a vigilante because of them is silly. When he got his powers, he was a good person, but a bit irresponsible. That's why he decided to go into show business and wrestling. He didn't even think to use his powers for the greater good of mankind. When he let's a mugger run past him, this shows his irresponsibility even more. Finally, when the thug kills his uncle, he realizes that with great power, comes great responsibility, something his UNCLE always used to tell him.

The reason his uncle's death IS such a big deal is because his uncle Ben was basically his father, not just some uncle who took care of him. The idea that with great power, comes great responsibility, is the main theme of the spider-man mythos. Spider-man is an orphan, but his parents' death and finding more information about them was not his main drive to be a super hero. It was making sure that he did not make the same mistake of letting the bad guy go. He has power, and he's going to use it for others benefit, because not many other people can do what he can do. That's why he feels responsible to be a hero.

Now, I understand that the film is trying to differentiate from the Raimi films, but changing Peter's motives and his reasons to become a hero is just too much. That's why people are angry about this. It's not just a bunch of fanboys whining. The movie changed the costume, which all by itself is a bit disappointing, but when you change the core of the character, then it's not the same character. So far, this does not sound like spidey. I'm just saying WHY I and many others don't care for this.

END

So again, go worry about how Sony [frick]s up your character...while i worry about they [frick] up mine !!!

Believe me i was letting things to when it came to the Costume, No JJJ, and the whole new Parents angle, I even defended the Lizard's look to give it time to see it up close in film to judge.....but the essence of a character should never be messed with

Hell I just have to consider this a completely different Spider-man and pray down the line we get a true, true reboot......yes Bollywood you win again........and we will be there for a 3rd reboot too.

The problems with putting comic book stories in a 2 hour film is that they're written to be a serial and are sometimes too complex. The origin of Venom runs through Secret Wars/Black Costume/Symbiote seperation/Eddie Brock hatred of Parker/Brock links with Venom, which from 84 to 88 is four years worth of stories, not including Carnage. This would work in a Spiderman TV series, but even across a triology of films it would be a hard story to tell: You need an amount of stories of Spidey enjoying the power of the costume to make the seperation of the suit and Brock's vengeance far more dramatic. It's the same as putting the Phoenix saga or Galactus in a film: to fit the story in is just a long discussion of exposition to set up the film.

To me the only way to get Venom in a film is to dramatically alter his origin which is exactly the sort of thing that drives us hardliners crazy. I think it would be better to ignore the character altogether.

To me, the best villians to use in a film are those that have less history. The Rhino, Electro and Scorpion are all characters who could be visually impressive on the big screen, and be deemed a serious threat to Spidey. Also I don't see why cbm's insist on having origins of villians and then bumping them off at the end of the movie. The only exception of this is Nolan's Batman, who didn't need to set up the Scarecrow and Joker, they just turned up and caused chaos. And he didn't fall to the cliche of killing them off.

For a Spiderman movie I don't think the story should be 'Spidey vs Xvillian', more Peter Parker tries to live his life while Xvillian(s) turn up at the most awkward time to ruin it for him.

@Sagemode

Toxin's legs tend to be entirely black with a red torso. That loks like Carnage from where I'm standing.

I'd add Kraven to the list, but he'd need the right story to fit in..
Mysterio would be awesome and Venom deserves better after Spider-Man 3
