EL MUERTO Spider-Man Spinoff Movie Starring Bad Bunny In The Works At Sony Pictures

The next Sony Pictures' Spider-Man adjacent movie was just announced at CinemaCon, with pop superstar and part-time WWE wrestler Bad Bunny set to play Luchador Juan-Carlos Sanchez, aka El Muerto.

CinemaCon is now underway, and Sony Pictures has just announced its latest SPUMC movie: El Muerto!

The Spider-Man adjacent spinoff will star Latin Grammy winner and platinum-selling recording artist Bad Bunny as superpowered Luchador Juan Carlos Sanchez. The character only made a few appearances in the comic books, but the studio evidently decided to expand on his history in order to accommodate Bad Bunny, who was searching for the "right superhero property for himself."

El Muerto will be the first Latino superhero to headline his own movie in Sony's Marvel Universe. Madame Web, Kraven the Hunter and Spider-Woman are also in the works, and we're hearing more will be announced soon - maybe even during this very presentation.

Bad Bunny, aka Benito Antonio Martínez Ocasio, is set to make his acting debut in the upcoming Bullet Train, and also has some wrestling experience having competed in two high-profile matches in WWE.

This is certainly an unusual choice of character to lead his own standalone film, but fans are used to Sony Pictures making odd decisions at this stage. Maybe there's still hope for that solo Aunt May movie?

A third Venom movie was also confirmed to be in development, while Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse Part 2 has been officially titled Beyond the Spider-Verse.

El Muerto is currently set to hit theaters on January 12, 2024.

@Fogs - Bad Bunny is one of the biggest stars in Latin America. But he’s a Reggaeton artist.. not an actor. Although he will make an appearance in that new Brad Pitt film Bullet Train.

Listen I’ve always said that instead of changing the race of a character find black, Latino, Asian etc characters from the comics that are maybe lesser known and give them a film/series. But I think this one is strange there are other Latinos with more than two comic book appearances 😂

Why give the role to a Reggaeton mumbler instead of an actual Hispanic actor?

@MCUKnight11 - like when Tego Calderon and Don Omar were in I think 2 different Fast movies, but not afterwards that I know of, like they just vanished. Of course I quit watching so I’m not sure. Also I’m their height.

No... Like... Who tf has genuinely heard of this character before? I'm not saying you have to know a character's existence before going into their movie, but please Sony.

Stop being stupid.

@KWilly - He’s only appears in Peter David’s Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man run, and he only has two appearances in it. That’s it.

This is literally the most obscure Spider-Man character Sony could have made a movie about, lol. At this rate, they might as well do a Big Wheel movie
